I just have to ask why everyone argues about their "home"

I agree it does get tiresome, although I do find myself being a defender of the BW from time to time.
As much as I try not to let it get to me, the snide comments really take a toll after a while.
And yes, it is one of the reasons I don't post as much as I used to.

Actually, I would hope that everyone does love their home resort the best because that means they made the right decision. Buy where you want to stay. It just would be better if people talked about the positives of their resorts versus the perceived negative of others.

I am a new SSR owner so there has not been much bashing yet but if I did not know how it was over here, many in this group would have chsed me away from DVC.

I will bash away if required after I stay at all the WDW DVC resorts & VB which will be by end of Feb/04

Just kidding......

Seriously, folks what is there that is of material value to bash - we are all fortunate enough to afford our DVC indulgence and that should be enough for anyone on this board.

In my view, bashing any of the DVC WDW resorts is missing the point - they are all at least good and I would think almost all of us would be happy to stay in any of them on any given trip

thanks

But why would you let it get to you (by the way, I am using a quote from you but others posted this as well so it isn't directed only at you). The point is, would you argue with your neighbor if they thought their ranch home was way better then your colonial home? You might defend your home a few times but eventually you would walk away, I would hope. You might be ticked at him for his comments but wouldn't you let it go. If you go out to cut the grass and he does it again, you would now go out of your way to avoid this neighbor. Yet, on the internet people can't seem to just walk away. On this thread alone, people have missed the point. People feel some strange need to include "I agree with you BUT BWV is always getting bashed" or "OKW is always getting bashed." Get some thicker skin and ignore those that continue to reply in this way especially when it doesn't have anything to do with the original thread. If your happy with your home then who cares what anyone else thinks?

Hmmm.... if one didn't care what anyone thought, why would one visit a board that was all about people's thoughts? Sure there's some data given here -- costs, dates, # of rooms in a given resort or view.... but predominantly it's all opinion (trip reports, restaurant reviews, housekeeping, should dues go up, best pools, etc.)

Lately, society seems to be all about "tellin' it like it is"... And in today's time, folks also don't seem to care how directly they may say their opinions. It's done in the name of being "assertive" or "up-front" or "candid". (My mom would still say "rude"...) We have all sorts of talk shows geared for just that -- tellin' it like it is. Tellin' you how you are so wrong, so misguided, you poor fool, and how I'm going to set you straight! The internet gives a great forum for folks who dabble in this because you DON'T have to live next to the person you bash! It's relatively faceless and nameless -- you can bash anyone's ideas at whim and they can only type back! It's like a hit and run, only with a keyboard, not a car.

Often -- it is those who bash the most that are actually in dire need of the security of knowing they made the right choice -- andthey will use any opportunity to promote that choice, whether the original thread asks them for it or not! While folks who are secure in their choices have far less need to broadcast their choice or bash someone else's, they will however respond if their choice is unfairly characterized or criticized. And that anonymity thing comes back into play -- whereas you would walk away or avoid your neighbor (never know -- he could be some sort of serial killer, after all, and he knows where you live), you don't have to walk away from your computer -- you can sit and type and retaliate as you smugly say, "Bring it on, baybeee..." (not that anyone does this, but you get the idea). Next thing ya know, it's a big debate/brawl, and the OP is out in the cold.

It seems too that a simple line said in jest can sometimes be taken just for that, and then, inexplicably, hammered at another time! Some folks are just very reactive to anything said, objectively or otherwise, and sometimes too -- I think it can be hard to convey emotion in a simple typed line so that folks know when you're kidding. Just one of the many pitfalls of internet posting.

All the resorts have their advantages and disadvantages regardless of what some may believe and try to force others to believe. It is a very narrow minded person that believes otherwise.

Each resort does not appeal to everyone, and they shouldn't. Disney would have never built multiple resorts if everyone wanted the same thing.

Just my opinion as to why some get so caught up in the arguement of which is best. I think it is much more about "who" they are, than which resort is best.

I think the posts speak very loudly of personalilities and insecurities.

As to the newcomers: just take it with a grain of salt, move on to discussion based on facts instead of emotions, and never let it upset you.

If you want to read something truely worthy of getting upset over, pick up a newspaper.

It got old very fast with the constant put downs of BWV etc before some started posting back. The same old posts regarding BWV etc have still not stopped, so people still get fed up with the continual lies, exaggerations etc and post back.
Oh, how I know what you mean here. I feel the same passionate way about my particular "home" resort and the hits it's taken. I wish it would cease, but then I have to stop and come to the realization that some people just will continue to do what they love to do. That is, to make comments that they know will incite passions in some folks and feel the need to rate the different DVC resorts from best to worst etc. I do, at times, find it difficult to hold back. In fact, in one of those longer threads that was mentioned by the OP, I was actually involved in. I finally got a PM from a very sensible poster on these boards (thank you !), that made me stop and rethink whether I wanted to continue posting to the sheer nonsense that was going on (and continues to go on in other threads). I chose to take the sensible poster's advise and lay back. I really hope I can continue to take some of the ridiculous comments being made with a grain of salt---I know it would be better for my blood pressure ! ;)

I agree with you all.

I think that the problem lately has been a passionate disagreement between a few parties in an earlier thread.

And since that "argument" was never resolved to the satisfaction of some people (there are NO absolute right answers), those issues and posters have spilled into other threads.

I am an owner at both resorts in question and can see points on both sides. However, I think some people's posts come across more annoying then others - even if they make valid points. And because some posts come across rude or annoying, people tend to respond directly to it and pretty soon, things become personal and even uglier.

It's actually good to disagree and discuss and even agrue about certain issues That's how we learn from each other. But sometimes people just can't let it go and keep posting their "point" - I know that many of us is guilty of this, myself included.

But there are some that take it to the extreme - they keep posting the same thing over and over and over again! What for? In the hopes of making their point for the 200th time? Or swaying others to their side? Or getting the opposing poster to admit defeat even if they don't change their mind? Maybe it just boils down to getting in the LAST WORD!

I can take some resort "bashing" - it's actually expected because people are passionate about their home resorts. It's those that keep "bashing me" over the head with their points of view like they must engrave it into every fiber of my being that bothers me!

Here's a interesting article about internet trolls that might to worth reading:

http://members.aol.com/intwg/trolls.htm

Please note that I DON"T BELIEVE THAT ANYONE HERE ON THE DVC BOARDS IS ACTUALLY AN INTERNET TROLL based on the above definition!

However, after saying this, I think some posters on SOME threads may appear to exhibit some troll-like qualities such as being deliberatelly annoying or arguing endlessly about their point of view. I INCLUDE MYSELF IN THIS CATEGORY - upon occasion!! ::yes:: Some of those posters are more annoying then others - at certain times - and some are merely pests that can even be occasionally amusing.

The funny thing is sometimes, people on opposing sides may even view each other as the "troll-like" poster!

Only one way to deal with posts or posters that become "troll-like" or you feel is "troll-like"- stop responding to them! Harder to say then to do sometimes, I know! But after 10+ pages of posts -there comes a time where you have to let some threads DIE!!!!

This is all my opiniion, of course!!
This is the best post I have ever read on this topic! Thank you, and I have TRIED over the past couple of days to let those posts die. Unfortunately, I had to put a couple of people on my "ignore" list to keep from getting their nasty grams in PM. I feel better now. Thank you for putting this all in prespective.

Diane...I agree that post stuck out for me as being very well written and one I agree with wholeheartedly.

I guess I'm in the "why can't we all get along" camp here. It has taken me a while, but I've learned to ignore threads that have degenerated into "arguments".

Personally, I'm not worried about the "resort bashing" for myself, but for the newcomers who lurk on this board trying to find out something about DVC. They may pose an innocent question and the response takes off in another direction. Or worse, they may pose the question and be ridiculed for asking.

I guess my problem is that I'm the Will Rogers of DVC....."I"ve never met a DVC resort I didn't like!".:)

And we are glad to have you around too, Granny!::yes::

I totally agree Granny ! In fact, I have stated this in many a post over the last 6 months or so in various threads I've been in. I have never put down any resort as a whole. I have mentioned problems that sometimes pop-up with some resorts from time to time as based on my personal experience, but I have always stated that I enjoy each and every DVC resort for the unique qualities they have to offer. Unfortunately, there are those select few that feel the need to berate certain other resorts and gush ridiculously over theirs (i.e. praising theirs as the "best" or whatever). I think all this sort of gives a very unfair slant on the whole pictures to newbies and I've stated such in some posts of mine. It's unfortunate.

:grouphug: & :love1:

Okay now I say we get the disboard owners to delete all DVC forums   and everyone pick a new sign on name and lets start over :rotfl:

I think the "mine is better than yours" argument is tiresome. Also, ripping on aspects of other resorts is also uninteresting.

What the world needs now...

Is love

sweet love.....

I am trying to think of a way that new posters can read about the pros and cons of a resort without some sort of 'my resort is better than your resort' debate happening... and I am not sure it can be done.

When someone bashes a resort there is a reason... (most times) that reason is a big negitive to them, and therefore could be a big negitive to someone else... good information to know, esp if your bothered by the type of thing the basher was saying.... Make sense?

Then the counterbashers pipe in... and defend their resort, showing that the particular incident isnt the norm, or whatever....

I suppose it is all in the tone.....

Anyway, I agree with the OP... and wanted to be on the record and say that we have yet to stay at a DVC resort that we wouldnt return too, and are thrilled to be DVC owners.

I am a newbie and own OKW points that have only been used at OKW. Although there will come a time that all the resorts will appeal to me. We are hoping to try the VWL next fall.

I think the most important thing to remember is we love the DVC and WDW because of a certain "Magic" it has created for us. It doesn't matter where we stay or who may or may not be ultra sensitive about their "home".

I too have been put off by the "mine is better than yours mentality". And it does make you hesitate to post questions you really want the answer to.

So I think we should all just take a deep breath and remember that it is that disney "magic" that has brought all of us together in the first place.

Granny said it best so far!! :hyper:

I haven't had a "bad" trip yet. While there have been a few things that popped up during my trips, I cannot say I have had a bad time at a DVC resort. I like all of the ones I have stayed in for various reasons. That is the joy of DVC, a variety of resorts to visit!!

I think BWV is better than SSR because BWV has rooms and roofs.

Six months till SSR opens... let the complaining begin!!!!

Oh, I forgot the sarcasm tags.....

:rotfl:
Agreed ! And as for the outside ambience of SSR, let us not forget to mention all that nasty-looking scaffolding and fencing ! YUCK ! ;)
