This has been one tough morning. My daughter heard a crash in the cage. The bird had fallen off her perch and apparently broke her back. It was the saddest thing I've ever seen. So we went to the vet and took care of things, then went straight to Petco to get another one, thinking that would help. I'm not too sure now that it was the right thing to do. This one is absolutely NOTHING like our little *Tiki* was. She was the calmest, most placid thing. She would just walk around the house. This one has already bitten my son a few times and is quite wild. We never had to do anything to tame Tiki, she just came that way. This one is going to have a different name......Challenge. Thanks for listening!

We have now brought *Challenge* back to the store and hope for a new owner for him or her. We were comparing the two birds, and nothing can compare to our Tiki. However, in explaining how Tiki's ways and personality were to the bird person, they think she might have been ill. Come to find out, the cage she came out of last week, is in quarantine because one of the birds died. We just thought she was great because she didn't fidget or bite or squawk when we picked her out of her cage. She just sat there and came to us. They told us parakeets need hand taming before they do that so they think she was not well.

I'm sorry that you lost Tiki. Tiki sounded like a very special bird that really liked where he/she was living.

Always sad, Dawn, but I do think all pets, large and small, furry and feathered, do meet us all someday at the Bridge, that Rainbow Bridge. So very sorry to hear about little Tiki, sounds like she was great.......

called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet
goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and
play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and
comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those
who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember
them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss
someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and
looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs
carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you
cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses
rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once
more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never
absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
Sorry to hear the news. I hope Challenge does well.

BTW - I forgot to add to my list of hints last week to be VERY careful when using household chemicals around birds. Do not use room sprays, carpet deodorizers and such in the room with the cage. Also, don't clean the water cups with dish detergent. A simple rinsing with hot water and wipe with a paper towel is enough. Household chemicals can be toxic to birds.

I'm so sorry to hear about Tiki. :(

Thanks you guys. I'm still so sad. I don't understand how I could have gotten attached to something I didn't have for very long at all. I was up for about an hour and a half in the middle of the night thinking about her.
