My 50th birthday is next Saturday. My sweetie got in touch with my family and a bunch of our friends and they all contributed for me to take a 3 day course in fondant and sugar work with Chef Nicholas Lodge in Atlanta GA!!! This is the foundation course for all his other courses and I am soooo excited. Chef Lodge is one of the premier cake/sugar artists in the country and is also the head judge of the National Gingerbread Competition.

I know I am going to learn SOOOO much from this amazing chef.

Lisa had me open a gift, which was an oven mitt that said "Believe in your dreams!" Then I opened a large envelope that was FILLED with small envelopes. In each was the name or names of everyone who contributed. Some made sense, like the group of friends we were celebrating with, but then I got to people who are scattered all over the country, my extended family and my boss ( who Lisa contacted to arrange the time off from work for me as the original class was scheduled for mid January and I need to request time off 30 days in advance )

Needless to say at that point I was baffled. Then, I opened a calendar that had a sticky note on April 29, 30 and May 1 with 'save the date' written on it. The class had been moved to April as not enough people signed up for the January class. Now I was really intrigued. Then I opened the certificate that had lots of pictures from previous classes and a note from Chef Lodge himself! I burst into tears at that point.

I am so blessed to have such wonderful family and friends and truly truly blessed to have this opportunity to learn an art I love from someone I admire.

I can't wait until April and I am too excited to sleep!!!! ( I got the gift last night and did not sleep much at all!!! )

That is so cool! It's wonderful that so many people care :thumbsup2.

And I think he should be paying to have *you* in his class....your National Gingerbread House entry this year was amazing.

agnes!

Very, very nice, Linda. What a thought-filled gift from Lisa. Enjoy, as I am sure you will. And a very Happy early Birthday wish for you.

And 50? You could pass for a 20 something year old.

WOW!!!! What an incredible gift. :dance3: I'd be crying too. As a fellow artist, (clay, not food,) I am absolutely drooling that you have such a wonderful opportunity to study with a pro like that. :woohoo: Good for you! :yay:  :cool1: :cheer2:

Linda - congratulations on your upcoming birthday, and on this fantastic opportunity. How wonderful for you and them!! Caroline

That is a fabulous gift! You're very fortunate in your sweetie and youre friends!!!

My daughter gave me a cake decorating class and supplies for Christmas and she's taking it too. I'm going to look up Nicholas Lodge because I am interested in sugar art as well.

....wow, what a once-in-a-lifetime gift! Be sure to take plenty of pix and post 'em.....which reminds me, can we see your gingerbread house please?

What an amazing and thoughtful gift! Can't wait to hear all about it when you get back from the class-take pictures if you can!

Wow that is an amazing gift. :thumbsup2

But I have to say after looking at that gorgeous piece you made I can't imagine you could learn anything more. That is incredible.

Thanks for the compliment! I still have SOOOO much to learn. I am completely self taught and really want to learn the proper technique for doing things. This class will teach lots of skills that I currently muddle through. I have also been asked to do a wedding cake for a friend in June and this class will give me a good foundation for making that cake.

I am so excited about it all.

Linda

You could teach classes! Your work is absolutely stunning. No doubt you will be the star pupil. If Nicholas offered you a teaching position, I would not be a bit surprised.

That is such an amazing and thoughtful gift!!! :) I know you must be BEYOND excited!!! I can't wait to hear ALL about it!!

I showed your picture to my family and their reaction was similar to my own....jaws on the floor. Your stuff is amazing!!

Not sure if she also had a different thread for the completed pics.

Linda, a tip: you might want to turn you thread subscriptions on, so you can find your threads easier. :goodvibes
