It's here.... ?, anyone know if there is a way to reshedual your date, I work a 12 hour shift (overnight) the night before and then have JD at 8am, I'm going to be zonked. Does your employer have to let you off work?

There is usually a number to call to request changes. Sometimes they want you to come in the first time to explain, but if you are out of the area, etc, you usually can send that in before hand and be excused for those days. Sometimes the days are tacked on to the end of your "duty week", sometimes they are just dropped.

Yes your employer has to let you off work. There are various compensation packages though. In other words, they have to let you off work, but they don't HAVE to pay you. Some employers do, some don't.

Also, just because you got papers doesn't mean you will have to report that day. You usually have to call the night before to see if you are required the next day.

Hope this helps. I have never actually served, but have had to go to the courthouse a few times on a jury selection.

My employer let me off work and paid me in full for my time.

I was called three times when I lived in FL. Yes, your employer has to let you off. You do call in the night before and see if your number is in the group for the next day.

One of my coworkers rescheduled when she was called. Our entire department decided NOT to ever do that. LOL! Her original number was in the 300s or 500s. When she finally was called after rescheduling, she had a low number like 35 and had to go the first day...not even call! So in my opinion, rescheduling is not a great thing. LOL!

Good luck!

P.S. The first two times I hung in there and called each day. Never had to go in. The last time I was excused due to having a child with health issues.

Yes you are. They don't pick you because they want you to come back another day, just so they can interview you again.:hyper:

I've only had jury duty once. They didn't pick me either. I wasn't disappointed.:p I think it's a requirement that your employer has to let you be off for jury duty.
