Has your sister or family checked with the Americans with Disabilities act? Can this be checked or investigated? I'm sorry, I don't just roll over and accept anything, I've been working for 30 years and I know that workers have rights... and so do employers, right to work state or not. Unless you work in a sweat shop there are ways to validate problems. I have used them and if you have a valid complaint, they work.
Yes, they have rights. But employers can find ways around them quite easily. Especially in an at will state.
If they didn't want to bother with her they wouldn't hire her in the first place. The paperwork when you let someone go and they apply for unemployment is a big pain.
Some places will hire just whomever they can if they need someone with those skills immediately. They then can take their time finding someone they like better to fill the job and therefore fire the person they hired before their 90 day "trial" is up. The only thing they have to say in that instance is "it's not working out". And those forms aren't near as big of a pain to some as working with a deaf person permanently would be.
Certain laws can be easily gotten around or broken without it looking that way. I've seen it far too often. How many deaf people do you encounter in the workforce? I can tell you for a fact that far too many are on disability when they shouldn't have to be. There are tons of things deaf people can do. Unfortunately, due to what I've seen, most people just don't want to "deal" with them. It's far too much for some to write things down or learn sign language.
This is very true. Due to confidentiality issues, employers normally can't tell anyone why they fired someone. So the one fired is free to make up any story he/she chooses and there is nothing the employer can/will do to refute it.
I will also add, that those who have been fired multiple times for "no reason"? Probably need to start evaluating the common denominator in all those firings.
I've also had another employer say that she fired me. Funny thing is, I gave a week's notice and worked that week. I found out on the day I gave notice that she told someone she fired me. Usually, you don't fire a person and let them continue working for another week.

But, again, it was a new manager coming in who didn't like anyone that they previous manager had brought in. And again, it was a long term temp position, so it doesn't even show on my record.
I know for a fact that the first boss that fired me was to hire a friend in. My cousin worked there in the same office for the same boss. But this new manager didn't realize that she was my cousin.
As for me being fired just a couple times? My work record is spotless other than those instances. In fact, only one of them shows up on my record since the second one was a temp position. My rep at the agency also believed me and put me to work elsewhere immediately as I had worked in the office with her several years earlier. She knew me and my work very well.
One boss had an agenda, the other was a personality clash. Most of my previous bosses have gladly written letters of recommendation and told me to use them as references. And these are mainly long-term
temporary bosses. One boss I had (for 5 years) as a temp loved my work so much that even when he had an inkling that I would leave, he got me a raise. Three times. And when I had to be out for 6 weeks due to an operation, he hired in a temp in for his temp. And then called me at home wanting to know when I'd be back. Bosses don't do things like that for a temporary employee unless they really like their work. They were sad to see me go when I moved out of town. When I moved back and he saw me, he asked me if I needed work. I still see him on occasion and he always talks to me.
Another temp boss I had that I actually never did like, liked me so well that even today, more than 15 years later, will stop and talk my ears to death whenever she sees me.
I had another temp employer who had me and two others in doing a project. After 6-7 weeks, I was the only one they kept to finish it for the remaining 5 weeks. Because I was the one that actually did the work correct and they didn't have to re-do any of my work.
The job I have now is because of my work. I worked for 3 months under a contract along with 3 other people doing the same job. After the business got more of the work in, I was the only one they called back. My boss is even now is trying everything he can to keep me working even when the contract finished. Even though right now there is an abundance of people that could be doing my job.
I'm not a difficult person to work with, I do my job well (whatever it may be) and usually exceed expectations. I'm also not a social butterfly who's more interested in talking then in doing my job but yet remains friendly. I don't smoke so I don't need to take a smoke break every hour. I also show up to work unless I absolutely can't get in. Which is rarely. All around, I'm a good employee and it seems that most people are happy to have me as an employee or co-worker.
So say and think what you want, but I know the truth.
