I just got back from UP

I read in the credit that they were based on real people....at least Carl and Ellie, did they talk about that at all?

Yes, they did talk about that. Even Dug was modeled after a couple dogs. One of the animator's dogs was the basic personality and a dog they saw at a park was the shape.

I am so jealous you saw it on the ship.

There is a dog in my neighborhood and his shape reminds me to Dug. He just walked by and it made me laugh a little bit.

Oh, boy - if you're on the fence about this one I URGE you to go. And go see it in 3D. (It's not a gag-a-minute 3D movie; the 3D is used to enhance the foreground and background depths - not to poke things into your eyes.)

Up is a delight. Of course it is hilarious, but it is also gut-wrenching in its messages of loss and letting go. This is now tied with Toy Story as my favorite animation of all time - and quickly goes on my top 10 list without question.

We went and saw it this weekend and I think the adults enjoyed it just as much, maybe even more, than the kids. It definitely has parts that will have you tearing up, laughing, and gasping. Really good storyline and good message. This one we will be adding to our DVD library when it becomes available.
