My dd's teacher is not being rehired for next year (she is 1 year away from tenure). Now I have been happy with this teacher and Madie has done well. So, from that perspective I am pleased with her.
However, I know that there must be more to the story. Most school boards won't just drop an apparently effective teacher. Of course there are rumors going around. One is that the superintendent wants to put a friend into the position but I don't really think that's it. In fact, I spoke to a women who works in the school but not for the school and she said she has heard about why the teacher is being fired but couldn't tell me. She did say that there is no other person being considered for the job and that this was not a sudden thing.
I am going to the BOE meeting tonight but I don't know who to support. I don't know both sides of the story. I don't want to support this person if she isn't doing her job (ie: not meeting state requirements, ineffective classroom management, poor lesson planning, etc). I also don't want to go in supporting the BOE if they are bullying her. I guess I'll just go and listen. I just don't feel it's fair to make a judgment if I don't know everything.
