I just did a brave and utterly stupid thing

California Dreamin - all i can say is I'm so sorry for you and :grouphug:

On Monday I quit the job I just got after being laid off Jan 1 - I just couldn't stomach doing the exact same thing I hated about the previous job! It'll work out for all of us!! :thumbsup2

Thank you so much...it's nice having support from my Dis friends. My family will accept it eventually. I hope. I mean, my husbands job is changing and for the worse, and all the financial responsibility will be on him. We booked a cruise for July, i only have a couple thousand in my 401k. Ok, I'm stupid. BUT I cannot turn back. Even though my boss knows nothing, I am not going to back out of leaving. I have the option to change my mind, but that would only make things worse. So we willl eat hamburger helper every night. And I can sell my car, I hate to drive anyway. Our mortgage is low, and our debt is too. We just need to make some minor lifestyle changes.
Bye-bye Disneyland trip I was planning for next year. :guilty:

Prayers, good wishes and pixie dust to NY Disney fan on finding work.
Same to CaliforniaDreamin on finding the right decision. Sorry, I missed your post so I'm guessing that it's about should I or shouldn't I quit.

I just wanted send you some pixie dust and let you know that I have been there. I was working a job that I grew to hate. I was working about 60-70 hours a week and killing myself. One day I had just had it. I don't even remember what triggered it but probably they assigned me one more task to do and I typed up my resignation letter, walked into my boss' office, said I quit and gave him the letter. I had no job lined up. Knew my husband was going to kill me when I got home. But I'll tell you this. It was the best thing I ever did. It saved my sanity and I ended up with a job that I absolutely loved.

Sometimes, I think we need to just jump into the water and see what happens.

Good luck in your job search.

Jeanelle

I've done this before on several occasions and it worked out BETTER EVERY TIME!:thumbsup2 Peace of mind is valuable thing, best wishes with the job hunting NY Disney Fan.

I'm so sorry you had to go through something like this. It's difficult reaching that breaking point, especially when you are unsure of what lies ahead. I went through something like this a few years ago with a horrible boss. I did everything through the right channels...went to the district manager, HR, etc...but this "lovely" boss of mine had been with the company for several years and was buddies with all the right people, so no one ever took complaints against him seriously. I finally came to my own breaking point when he tried to write me up for something he had done and I quit on the spot. I was a bit scared that my DH would be upset...but he was very supportive of me. I was the primary money maker at the time since DH was in school so it was a bit unnerving, but it eventually all worked out. The sad thing is that I discovered that about 6 months after I quit, a customer complained about this manager after the manager referred to someone in a racist/derogatory way (and not as a joke, this manager was known for saying these things about people he felt were inferior). The company lost the account, which meant a nice bit of business. What happened? The company merely moved him to be a manager at a nearby location. Ugh.

Anyway, I can totally relate to what you're going through. The unknown might be scary, but it's MUCH better for you to not be in a stressful (and ultimately harmful) environment.

Good luck to you.

My DH and I talked over the weekend and he turned his notice in on Monday. No job lined up and a very scary thought but under the circumstances, I wasn't about to let it all go on.

OMG!! I am going thru the same thing right now. I am still employed but hate coming here everyday. My boss is terrific but it is other people that drive me crazy. I work for a small company with the owner's son and daughter work here in manager positions. The daughter is the worse- she is quite the pisspot and the son is a major slacker. I do business collections and am so bored with it- have been doing it for 6 years. I am going back to school to obtain my masters in forensic science and soon I will have to take day classes. They will not allow me a flexible schedule here so I am looking for a third shift job to be able to attend college during the day. I went on an interview this past tuesday but havent heard anything yet- keeping my fingers crossed. To the OP- you are a very brave person, unfortunately I have to keep this job until I find a different one but it very depressing none the less.

Good Luck!!:grouphug::grouphug:

Reading your post made me think of the saying "Leap and the net will appear."

There is also a book I would recommend it's called "Feel the fear and do it anyway" by Susan Jeffers.

Best of luck to you!

Good for you!!

Lots of prayers and good thoughts coming your way!!

Good Luck, OP! I just did the same thing last week. I couldn't take it anymore and am lucky that I will be able to stay at home with my children for awhile. The extra money was nice, but it wasn't worth the stress. Everything will work out for the best! :thumbsup2

You are definitely not alone in this, as I have done it before too. You have my thoughts and prayers :goodvibes.

Have you applied for unemployment? You very well may be eligible. I had a friend who finally had enough of her employer's (very small roofing company with only 5 office workers) BS. Her husband had lost his job and so she needed to pick up health ins. through her employer. Money kept getting deducted from her paycheck but she didn't get the insurance cards. Multiple emails were sent to/from the one and only HR person (whom I can attest was a corrupt, inept WITCH with a capital B!) promising she'd figure out what was happening. 4 months later (and still no health insurance) my friend quit, filed for unemployment, and WON all of the challenges from her previous employer.

If you have proof of the daily crap this jerk dealt out and your attempts through the proper channels to get it taken care of, you have a good chance of winning any unemployment claim.

Good luck to you!!
