We're getting so many offers from U-Verse, Comcast...for low prices that I decided to call Dish Network and see what they would say. At first, I got AT&T since our bill is all together and that rep wouldn't budge. He actually suggested that I cancel and switch to U-Verse. I called Dish Network directly and the customer service rep offered to take off $15 from my bill bringing it down to about $75. I told him that was still more than the other offers so he transferred me to the cancellation dept. I was just going to inquire as to the procedure to cancel but the rep offered to give me some free channels (HBO and some others) plus bring the bill down to $72.99. I told him that still wasn't a good offer since others are offering rebates. Without hesitating, he said that he would give us $20 off for the next 12 months bringing it down to $52.99. I accepted because I was afraid to lose that offer but something tells me I could have gotten him to come down a little more.

I really didn't want to have to deal with switching (setting up the new service, sending the receivers back...) so I'm happy.

I'm not too familiar with Dish (we have Time-warner ugh). Does Dish have a cable/internet package? If they do, maybe I should look into switching.

I did the same thing last month. I was looking at ways to cut monthly expenses. I tried Alltel but they wouldn't budge. Apparently I'm already at the lowest plan available. Then I called Dish Network. My bill was cut in half and I received more movie channels. :cool1:

I realize that this will probably only last a year, but I will just call back next year and try again.

We just canceled Directv on Monday night because we are now with Verizon Fios (with our entire package *phone, internet and tv* we are saving a goos amount and LOVE the service so far) and when we called Directv they were offering us $20 a month off, free DVR service for a year, Free warranty plan....still wasn't worth our while.

Moral of the story---Now is the time to bargain with your "leisure utility" companies...They want to keep you to stay in business.

I could never leave Direct Tv. I love my Red Sox too much and since I don't live anywhere near Boston, I couldn't live without MLB Extra Innings!! LOL

I have been thinking all calling too... I can save almost $40.00 by going over to directtv plus I would get more. The idea of having to deal with installation all over again . I need to call sooner then later...

I have dish network tv and internet. I need a lil help here. Can i do that trick too even though i am just new (2months) to the company? A response would be appreciated! :)

Call time warner!

Every year I check and see what the other offers are in our area, and if the offer is better than what we have - I call Time Warner, inform them of the offers that I have - and every year they match or beat the other offers... simple as that!

CALL! You won't regret it!

I've been thinking of calling Uverse to see if they can lower my bill. It's just too high and I can't justify paying that much for cable anymore. Hopefully they'll be helpful.

If you are under a contract with them they might not budge, but it would never hurt to call and ask. The worse they can say is no. They will likely tell you about the cancellation charges if you say you might switch so have your numbers before you call so you can counter with something like" I understand that I will be billed XX if I cancel my service, but the other company will save me so much it will pay for it in 2 months and then I'll save XX a month after that"

Be very careful of what DTV tells you. We had DTV too and when they started going up on price after the initial trial months every couple months they went up on price. I called them to cancel and it was offer after offer and to be honest too good not to cancel at the time with 3 mths totally free and the great offer after the 3mts to keep us then after the alloted free mths were up we got a whopping of a SHOCKER bill. They had charged us for the 3mts PLUS went up on the monthly price AGAIN. I called back and told them and stayed on the phone which seemed all day for them to look back at my account and determine that I was definitely supposed to have gotten those 3 mths free and figure out why we were all of a sudden charged and then extra charged. I finally told them to cancel it for good and they begged with all kinds of offers. We have been away from DTV for over a year now and they have been calling at least 1x a week and sending offers in the mail at least 1x a week.
