Last night I didn't get the laundry out of the dryer so this morning I went in to turn it on again to "warm it up". I can't stand folding cold laundry, it's a "thing" of mine. Anyway, I noticed the door was open but figured that Chris probably just grabbed a shirt out this morning or something. So I shut the door and turned it on. I went around the corner to brush my teeth and heard a BANGING in the dryer. I thought "I didn't put any shoes in there"....then it was like a movie in my mind...I remembered the door being open and started thinking that the banging was really loud. I ran in there and heard a stressed meow and started screaming her name and pulling clothes out. She didn't look good and her head was moving around in circles. I pulled her out and was crying (this scared Mo and she ran under the table to hide)...I called the vet and she came over HERE because she knows we have a new baby (they are just across the street from us and she is such a great vet). She is FINE! She wasn't in for more than 30 seconds or so but I've been crying all day anyway. I would have never forgiven myself...I KNOW she likes to lay in laundry but it didn't even register this morning. I'm a bad kitty mommy :( I gave her tuna and some milk as a special treat and I've been spoiling the heck out of her today. My poor poor China. *sigh* I'm an idiot and I knew better.

Moral of the story, check your dryer before you turn it on.

I think this is a funny story. LOL! But I guess the cat wasn't laughing.

Years ago, we had a dryer with a window on the door, and one of our cats would watch the laundry spin around, like it was her personal TV set.

Visitors that spent the night one time closed our cat up in the hide-a-bed. she was fine but avoided the couch after that.

Amazing how resilient they are arent they?

Sorry that happened to you, what a great vet! :)

There's nothing worse than cat guilt. They can even make me feel worse than my mother can.

If it were my cat, I'd feel bad too. Since it was your cat, I laughed. :jester:

I heard a story like that without the happy ending!:(

 (It was kinda funny though, glad your kitty was OK!)

Ooops!! Glad everything turned out ok. I'm sure you were a wreck. Can't imagine what the cat was thinking!

Poohstyx

You just told the story that is one of my biggest fears with my cats. Fortunately I don't have it near as much anymore since we never keep the door open at all, but my sister used to and I always feared we would wind up doing that to one of our babies. I am so glad your kitty is okay though. You are not a bad kitty mommy, I've heard this happen to several others who love and adore their cats as much as you seem to. What a great vet you have too :)

{{{Hugs}}} I'm sure you're probably more upset at this point than the cat. I'm glad she's okay. :)

Yeah, the cat is happy as a clam and getting lots of spoilling...she'll be begging to be thrown back in by the time I'm done spoiling her. ;)

That is why our laundry room is off limits to the cats... they would do just that if they could...

My "baby" Aaliyah likes crawling into the dryer, also. She's so big there's no way I wouldn't see her if she was in there, though! I always check just in case!

I did the same thing to my cat a few years ago. She was in there for about 10 minutes though:eek:   I honestly didn't think anything of the banging, but my brother was over and it started getting on his nerves so he went and checked the dryer. It took me forever to get over it! I'm just glad that my dryer is a small apartment size and it takes a while to get hot.

Believe it or not, in the winter, my cat will still jump in the dryer when I open it:rolleyes:

I am glad your kitty is ok. I alway check my dryer for that very reason. My sister in law killed her kitten that way and it was very sad.

Oh poor kitty. I was reading your post with my hand over my mouth -- because I was sure it was going to end worse than it did. I've heard of kitties not making it after something like that.

I'm SO GLAD she's ok.

I just gave my kitty an extra hug. Give yours one for me.
