I posted this on the rent and trade board and my post was not accepted. So I will try here. I know nothing about renting points, I have stayed in timeshares many of times but always off site or other places. I was considering renting some points from someone since I am used to that type of accomodations. I just really like the option to save on some meals cooking, laundry ect... So I don't need the faniciest. We just want to experience on site this time. I just need a two bedroom for Dec 8-15. How do I know how many points this cost. What are the options? Any advice? Thanks!

This year, 2007- OKW would be about 218, BCV/BWV/VWL would be about 270.

I think that time of year is pretty booked- so you might not even be able to find an owner who could get you a reservation- if you could you should expect to pay about $10-$13 per point. (probably closer to $13 since availability is so limited)

So best case: you are looking at a price range of about $2180 - $3500 depending on resort and per point price. If you are talking about December 2008 your chances would be much better of getting a ressie- you should start seeking a rental in Jan of '08 for a Dec. '08 reservation.
Good luck!

PS: Read the sticky at the top of the rent trade board- you really want to post a "reservation wanted" post. They have strict rules about posting there- so you have to read the rules.

ETA: I calculated 1 too many nights- fixed

Each resort has different point values for a weekly rental and they vary depending on the season. For example, that week at Saratoga is 243 points for a two bedroom and at the Beach Club is 270 points for a two bedroom. I've never rented points to anyone, but I have looked on that board and it seems that the going rate varies as well. You can also book rooms directly through Disney CRO. I would do some research on which resort you'd like to stay at and price it out through Disney and then look on here to see if you can find someone renting points at the resort you want.

Just wanted to point out that the points necessary for your trip are high because your desired dates include two weekend nights. DVC is different from CRO in that Friday and Saturday nights are MUCH more expensive than weeknights (Sun-Thurs.). One option would be to try to go from the 9th to the 14th, and then maybe stay offsite or at one of the value resorts for the nights of the 8th and 14th. However, as someone pointed out, that's a tough time of year to get reservations -- most likely you'll need to find someone who already has a reservation for your desired dates (by posting a "Reservation Wanted" thread), rather than looking to rent points and THEN make a reservation.

Good luck! We'll be staying at OKW on rented points from 12/9 to 12/14, so maybe we'll see you there!

Edited to add: For 12/9-12/14, you'd need 110 points at OKW, 135 at SSR, or 150 points at VWL. At $10 to $12 a point average rental price, that's a significant savings to drop those weekend nights!

When I have rented points to family and friends, they opt not to stay for the weekends because the rates go up sooooo much...

As others have said, the points can vary from resort to resort.. View also matters if you are trying to get BWV...

Your best bet is to click on this link to see the point charts:
http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-vacation-club/DVCpoints.shtml

From there, as others have said, expect to pay between $10 - $13 per point... Keep an eye on the rent/trade board to get the going market price per point...

Going off of memory, here are the WDW resorts from fewest points to most...
1) OKW
2) SSR
3) BWV (Standard view)
4) AKV
5) VWL, BCV, BWV (Preferred / Boardwalk View)

As another option to a 2BR, you may want to consider two studios... Having the kitchen and washer/dryer is nice, but you want to keep your options open..
