I hope my husband likes the surprise?? Opinions??

The only flaw in your plan that I can see is you don't have enough days there!!! 3.5 days you don't even get a day at each park .
Add more days if you are able, so you can really enjoy yourselves

I know!! I was trying to plan a 5 day trip but his work schedule made that impossible! That way we could spend a day at each park and then have an extra day for whatever park was his favorite! Maybe he'll love it so much we'll go again soon and we'll plan the trip together and make it a longer trip.

This 29 (almost 30) year old male went for his first time to WDW this year, and loved it. Before going, I really didn't much care if we went or not....now, i'm obsessed with the place, and all things Disney.

He'll love it. Guaranteed.

jeff.

Jeff,

That's exactly how my husband is...we've joked about going when we have kids but even then he says he doesn't care. But then I catch him watching Citty Chitty Bang Bang or Lady and the Tramp, or shows on the Discovery Channel about the making of certain rides (the lastest being about Expedition Everest) and I tease him about how much he really loves all things Disney. And he'll smile and say not to tell anyone. But then he'll turn around and say that he doesn't care if he goes or not! I hope he comes back with the same feelings you now have for WDW.

I think he will love the fact that you did something special for him, no matter what it is. Once the cat is out of the bag, you can let him know how you ended up picking WDW and then after he said about Mexico how you thought perhaps it was not the choice he would have made. I am sure he will be happy going!

Have a great trip!!!

well a few days at Disney is better than a week at work anytime, so I will do the happy dance for you  :dance3:

Mexico, Shmexico! What can you do there you can't do in Disney? He'll probably be as thrilled as I would be (although I'm 45 not 30)! I've been married for 22 years and have never been disappointed by a surprise from my wife. Enjoy!:thumbsup2

they have a Mexico in epcot,
in fact they have a beirhause, and
an authentic english pub, etc. etc.
let me repeat the very wise person before me
Mexico, shmexico.

I appreciate everyone's support that it was a great idea to surprise him with!!! :cool1:

Now I am soliciting ideas for dinner at MGM. On the night of his birthday I am taking him to the Concourse steakhouse at the Contemporary. I couldn't get reservations for LeCellier and the Yachtsmen would have been out of our way. I hope it's good!

On the 30th we are doing dinner at Artist Point since we are staying in the WL.

But I can't decide on the 29th? 50's Primetime? Sci-Fi Dine-In? Mama Melrose?

I know this should probably be on the Dining thread but thought I'd see what anyone here had to say? I've been doing a lot of reading on the Dining thread and there's a lot there!

15 days to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mgm is my least favorite place to eat.
brown derby is real special but real expensive
hollywood and vine is fine but not special
my choice would be sci fi and make it like a dinner and movie date.

From what I've been reading on these Boards is that MGM doesn't have too many quality choices! But we are going to be in AK in the morning (extended hours) and it closes at 5:00 and I figured we'd then shoot over to MGM which has extended hours that night.

Maybe we should do dinner at AK? Do the restaurants close when the park closes?

i like the movie date idea myself,
but i try to avoid the extra hours thing
the boma is known for being very good (search it)
and is at the resort so it should not be effected by the park time.
that might be a good choice.
i dont see you mentioning the epcot
that is definitely the playground for adults.
great restaurants everywhere and the world is amazing.
adult beverages too, (if thats your preference)
someday.... wife and me without kids will rule that world!!!!!
until then..... we are happy with character meals.

i cant even suggest all the good restaurants at epcot,
but my research this year has me going to coral reef.
pricey but, my reasoning is, i have nice steak houses by me, but you just dont get a chance to eat dinner inside an aquarium everyday.
keep up the good work it will be fine.

Not sure what resort your staying at, or if its "too close" to be able to reserve one.. But you could do an evening horse drawn carriage ride. Just the two of you, kinda romantic and special right?

I really don't have us scheduled for much time at Epcot. Not that I am being anal rententive and planning every second, but since we are there such a short time and I've had so many great restaurants recommended to me that I did the basic scheduling of what days we will be at what parks and where we need to make dinner reservations. It came down to either an Epcot restaurant or the Artist Point one night and I came down on the side of the Artist Point. But I did try to make reservations at LeCellier...just couldn't get any.

I think next time we go we'll have to stay longer and spend more time in Epcot just enjoying the food!! I've read lots of good things about the Coral Reef! It does look cool.

That sounds great. Can I just call the Wilderness Lodge to set that up or would I call Disney reservations?

Ok here is a very quick summary....

Carriage Rides at:
Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground
Disney's Port Orleans Resort Riverside
Saratoga Springs Spa and Resort.

He LOVED the surprise!!! He was so excited he called all his friends before we left telling them all he was going to Disney World...it was fabulous!!!!! Half the time he was dragging me while he was running to rides...it was a better reaction than I could have hoped for!

I got him a cake at the Concourse:

And I changed a reservation and added the Coral Reef for dinner and the Divers in the tank held up a birthday sign for him! The whole restaurant sang Happy Birthday! He turned bright red! It was fabulous food and he loved the surprise! Debbi Sacileux at the Coral Reef set it all up and even made a special homemade menu for him with a pic I sent her from our honeymoon and a little message from me wishing him a Happy 30th!! Truly amazing and a great place to eat if you want to surprise someone!

It is great to hear that everything went off as you had initially hoped! Thanks for sharing with us!!! :)

You have inspired me. I am going to try and surprise DH in December with a trip for his graduation present. He is finally finishing his masters. :cool1:
We are going in April. I am going to have to work my butt off and pay for it in secret. This is not going to be easy. To save money we are going to have to leave the children here. :scared1:

Well it will make a great surprise!! And I am sure that after all his work finishing his masters that he'll appreciate some alone time with you!

I looked all around to find the best price and I found AAA had the best rates. Others may have different ideas, but by joinging AAA for $50 I saved over $300 from the WDW site. I share your pain--I was stockpiling money and redeming credit card points (cash back) to get some spending money together!! Good luck!

If you go to the CR maybe they'll do a "Congrats on Graduating" sign! :cool1:

We were only there 3 1/2 days and I wish we could have stayed longer. I'm already having withdrawals!!
