Here's the deal. I have an upcoming WDW trip planned for 11/26-11/29. It's going to be me, my daughter and my sister. I was waiting for tickets to hopefully go on sale through Southwest or a great DING! fare to open up.

Well, on 8/20, I was flying back from Las Vegas to Birmingham. When I was lining up for the flight they made an announcement that it was completely booked and then said that they were looking for a volunteer to give up their seat for compensation. I decided to do it and it put me into BHM 3 hours later and they gave me $376 worth of airfare!! That, along with $70 in credit that I already had, bought me two of my tickets for Orlando!! :woohoo: Needless to say, I was ecstatic and absolutely LOVE Southwest!!

Congrats! I'm flying down around the same time and really hoping for a DING, but I did make our reservations already, so we'd be getting credits at this point if a DING does come out.

Maybe I'll see you at MVMCP............that's when I'm going!! What better way to spend my birthday? :bday:

Congrats! It seems my flights are always overbooked on the way TO WDW - when I am loathe to get there any later than necessary!

Wow, in all our SW flights flights (which usually are completely full) I've never had them ask for volunteers to 'bump'. Along with your compensation did you also get an "A" boarding pass for the next flight?

I love them too! I had around $360 worth of ticketless travel funds that were about to expire tomorrow, so I called their Customer Service number this afternoon and they gave me the LUV extension till February 23rd, 2008..:thumbsup2

I've never had it happen before either, but used to watch "Airline" and know that it does. When it did, I jumped on it! I can't believe that lots of times nobody volunteers. In fact, I'm the only one that did on a plane full of people. I guess that people don't know what they're missing out on.

I was a little concerned about the boarding pass thing because when she printed it I was a "B", and I always get an "A" because I check in at the 24 hour mark. This was a little bothersome to me, but I figured that the B group isn't the worst, plus I was going to receive the compensation. Next thing I know, she hands me a pre-board pass saying that because I originally had an A and she couldn't put me in that group she felt bad. I'll admit, I felt pretty bad pre-boarding without my small child since I am healthy and didn't have a reason to, but she insisted. They truly ARE the best airline! :cheer2:

WOW!!!! CONGRATS

In all the trips I have made with SWA I have never seen them bump anyone, infact I always wish and had decided that they just don't overbook and have to bump. Did they need more then one or only one? :cool1:

My kids and I just flew back from Philly to St Louis last week and they were oversold (to Columbus, the first leg). I would LOVE to have stayed and got the $$, but with a 4 and 2 year old? NO THANKS! I'd have been nuts since the next flight was a few hours later.

CONGRATS TO YOU, OP! What a great treat!! :goodvibes

No, they needed only one person. In fact, after I had given up the seat and they gave me the credit, it turned out that 7 people hadn't shown up for the flight. The lady told me that if they didn't come that I could get back on the flight and still get the credit. An older man (about 80) walked up about that time, desperate to get on the plane due to a death in the family. She told him that if anyone would get on the flight it would be me, but that she would list him next. Well, the family of six showed up at the last second and she offered to put me in the last seat, but I told her to give it to the other man since he had somewhere to be. I was already on cloud nine! :cloud9:

I have a 3 year old, and believe me, if I had been with her I doubt that I would have volunteered, although it would be tempting! Oh, and the way that the $376 was figured out is they offered a $200 credit for giving up your seat, plus whatever the cost of the one way ticket that you had paid for that leg. I think that the $200 is pretty normal, but then it varies after that.........could be more or less than what I received. It really was a blessing in disguise! :goodvibes

I tried to get my mom to make a reservation for the CP but she didn't want to! I really want to go because I love Neil Patrick Harris! I hope I get to see you while I'm there!

We'll be staying at Old Key West on 11/26, and then moving over to the Contemporary the day of MVMCP! Can't wait!! Maybe we'll see you that night.......let me know if anyone would like to meet! :goodvibes
