I remember those days.
We leave in 3 weeks, and Im fighting the urge to get the suitcases out and lay them out open. I could start packing. Theres stuff I know we wont need in between now and when we leave and stuff I bought specifically for the trip. I have it all piled in the recliner in my bedroom right now. But I know what would happen. My ds would start tossing stuff everywhere and my dd would start adding stuff she wont need. She has this idea she needs a certain amount of toys on these trips. I tell her if we were going to see family Id agree with her, but I am not convinced considering her history of passing out after her bath during various vacations.
I have occasion to be the night before packer. I can clearly remember doing laundry at 11pm the night before a trip so I could pack. I remember all of the last minute trips to Wal-Mart for stuff that just somehow didnt get checked off the list. So much fun. Then once in my haste the night before a trip to San Diego, I left my purse there. Our flight was at 6:30am. In the excitement and in carrying my other things, I didnt even know I had left it. I was about to go to bed, when they called the house. Fortunately this is a 24hr Wal-Mart. Fortunately my home phone number is on my checks. Dh was still alive then, so I left him and dd (then almost 2) and went and got it. Just thinking of the horror that would have occurred the next morning had they not called (no ID, no bank card, no cash), Ive at least done better about the last minute shopping. The last minute packing, not so much. I do a bit better just because I have 3 people to pack for now.
We leave on Thursday, the 21st. My goal is to be packed by the time I go to bed on Sunday, the 17th. Hoping beyond hope that any laundry I do after that will be for us to have clean clothes when we come home. This will be the longest trip we have been on. We have a busy week leading up to our trip and an 8am flight, which for us means leaving the house at 5:30, which for me means getting up at 4:30. Im so hoping Im not up until 11 doing last minute stuff. Ill have a 9 year-old and a toddler likely bouncing off every wall the next day and adrenaline will only last so long.
Have fun on your trip.
