Go to the TSA's website (TSA is the agency that does security at all US airports now) at
www.tsa.gov. They have a section for people looking for info on security procedures, what is allowed in your carry-on, what is only allowed in checked bags, and what is prohibited all together. It also gives you info if you have or are traveling with someone who has medical conditions or disabilities.
Generally, if you are just doing carry-on bags and aren't checking anything, 1 hour is usually okay, and 1 and 1/2 hours is okay if you are checking bags. But since you haven't flown in so long, I'd do 1 1/2 hours for carry on and 2 hours for checked bags, just to be safe. If it takes less time than that to get to your gate, then just grab a coffee or a beer and relax until flight time, remember, you're on vacation!
BTW, I've found that all of the TSA people I've delt with to be friendly and helpful, so don't be affraid to ask a question if you aren't sure about what to do. And you will need photo i.d. for all travelers 18 and older. Kids 17 and younger do not need i.d. when traveling with adults.
