What is the significance of the kangaroos on Google's logo today?

I would guess it was for Australia, part of the holiday doodles that I guess we will see for the next few days.

Yesterday there was tinsel on the "e"... today the kangaroos have taken it down and there is no longer any tinsel on the "e"... just an observation.
