I am trying to rent some points and people keep committing to rent and then canceling when it is time to pay. Why do they waste my time and theirs if they are not serious?? Kind of a rhetorical question, I know. I just needed to vent.

Try not posting points for sale, instead respond to those that want points to rent. Just a thought.

I agree with Tammy; that is how I rented our points and it worked out great....$12 per point.

Make full payment due upon the reservation being made. Give them 24 or 48 hours to get it to you. Don't borrow any points, don't make reservations after you can no longer bank those points.

Thanks for the good advice everyone. I have been doing those things. I gues I am just having bad luck. :confused3

Nah, you are just being shopped. You find the reservation available for someone. Then they get someone who is charging less to make the reservation.

always get a firm committment or at least a good ideal before making the reservation - then get half immeidately - with the other half 90 days before.

some people can't come up with the entire amount now.

Make the final payment due before you can no longer bank those points. And the initial payment non-refundable. Leave yourself as many openings as possible.

As a person who rents from members all the time, I just want to say I think that's terrible. I don't understand what's wrong with people that they would commit and then back out. I'm sure they'd be more than miffed if you cancelled their reservation and sent them off an email and a refund to say that you found someone who would give you more $$ per point than they agreed to. It's the same thing to let you make a reservation and then back out. These people give all of us renters a bad name. Please don't think we're all this way!

She'll find some good renters, they are out there. Thanks for posting this. I know I have found wonderful families.

So sorry to hear of your troubles. I RARELY rent my points, because I always want to use them myself. ;) BUT on the occasion I do rent them, I ONLY rent to friends/family of friends/family. There ALWAYS seems to be a friend of sister-in-law's or sister-in-law of a friend that wants to rent points. So far so good. I guess they don't want to "look bad" to our mutual person.

Good luck!

I agree. Those that want to rent and do this are only making it harder on themselves. Many people refuse to rent points because of the hassle and frustration. I too have found great people to rent to and dont need to post due to requests.

Yes, if we backed out for more money, it would be all over the Disboards!! And we'd probably get MS called on us too after they found our name on the Orange County website!

Good Luck Penny! You know the saying......sometimes you have to kiss a few frogs.......before you get warts!:lmao:

I myself am a renter and it is unfortunate that other "renters" are giving families like mine a bad rap. I have rented a few times now and have always paid on time, I send a deposit for them to even make the reservation then I send them the rest once the confirmation number is received. I paid for my January 2009 stay back in March and had no problem doing so. I look at is as you are providing me a service and a deal, right now my family is not in a place to purchase our own DVC home but you give us the opportunity to stay in yours.:flower3:

I have had very little problems with renters backing out. I state my terms clearly in my ads. I use a contract, require a deposit, do not give refunds and I am firm in my price. Also, I will not waste my time replying to someone who is posting all over the Rent/Trade board. All they are doing is price shopping.

Penny, are you trying to rent your points here on the DIS? I don't see any posts of yours over on the Rent/Trade board.
