Well I just got an email from the guy who bought them all, I just emailed him and asked how he got them.

Did anybody ever think to do that?

Here is his response to my email

I bought them from the original manufacturer. When they produced these, they made them in 6 different colors for the gold and silver wings. I am in the process of buying all of them. So there are 6 different silver and 6 different gold. They match the colors of the monorails at the Park in the mid-90's. This manufacturer wanted to become a producer of pins for the
Park. But never succeeded. As far as I can tell there are only about 350 of each color.

They are apparently very popular in California and very good traders even if they are not really Disney pins.

So what I'm getting out of this is that they were considered by Disney but turned down. What would be the best way to classify these pins Fakes, Fantasy or prototypes. My best guess would be prototype because Disney turned them down. So wouldn't that make them a tad authentic?

Larry

Since I bought a gold and a silver set I would call them Prototypes and rare never released hard to get Monorail pins :teeth:

Making pins is not a very difficult or expensive process. A "rare" unofficial pin has no worth.

Why are those fake Tinkerbell in sexy poses, and fake Jessica Rabbit pins so muchly desired sought after hard to trade for and sell on Ebay for over $100.00?

They are all unofficial. :p

It's all in the eye of the person thst wants the pin. Stitch and Tinkerbell are highly sought after characters.

for the most part, if it isn't made by Disney, I don't want it. Like Mario said, all in the eye of the beholder I suppose. I collect DISNEY pins, made by DISNEY.
As for the prototype designation, I think there is a big difference between a prototype produced by Disney for a pin they are thinking of releasing and Bubba Pin Maker making a pin he/she HOPES Disney wants to produce.
here is a question......has there EVER been a pin designed and produced by someone other Disney, submitted to Disney and subsequently produced and released by Disney?

I suppose anyone one of us could have a fantasy pin produced...as mentioned before, most are not too expensive to produce..unless you want cloiss., Disney loved it, and produced their own version of said pin....they don't have to ask us, they can just do it...they are Disney, so this may have already happened, and we just don't know.... (so is this confusing enough for everyone???)

These monorail pins are pretty nice looking, and Ed gets a lot of comments on them, but he tells everyone, up front, the story..(he has a set on his lanyard)...there was someone that had these pins on property, and was selling them as a prototype of the "to be released NEW version" of the monorail pins....Needless to say, they were OTLO for him... first of all selling on property is a no-no..and it wasn't the truth, but a lot of people bought them...

I am just curious, how you classify pins that were Disney but never released...but have somehow ended up on Ebay or on lanyards in the parks?

Just an interesting question.

I guess I should have clarified that I collect Disney pins that have the DISNEY copyright on them. I only have one prototype and that was from Disney Auctions, because I lost the auction for the pin when Disney first put it up on Disney Auctions, so I figured a prototype was close enough (for those curious, it was the Pluto Filmstrip one). I tend not to buy pins off of Ebay unless I know for a fact they were park released. I don't just take the sellers description/origin word for it.

I just don't personally wish to collect pins unless they are official Disney pins.

I have been told that Disney does not accept unsolicited submissions for anything. I doubt Disney would have taken an outside design and make it into a real pin. That would be opening themselves up for a lawsuit. Even though they own the character, if someone that does not work for Disney comes up with a design and Disney used it, the creator could sue. Just like if someone comes up with an idea for a movie. If you submitted the script they would return it unopened and unread so if they release something similar you could not say they stole your idea.

Now as well as you know Raul...do you think for one moment he would give you a fake pin..(don't answer that..:p )

No actually you are quite safe...they are very real. And these wings just made a recent appearance....Now you can wipe your brow...Whew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHEW!!!!!! Deep sigh of relief!! Thanks, Donna!

Donna, I've been meaning to ask you & Raul if you have been to the Cuban restaurant in Celebration - Columbia's. We had lunch there two weeks ago (during our whirlwind drive to FL, spend two nights - less than 48 hours in FL - & head home for a funeral). The service & food were excellent!!

See all safe and sound...LOL

We haven't eaten in the one in Celebration, but the home restaurant is in Tampa in Ybor City and has been there for ever, and I have eaten there...quite an experience...flamenco dancers all over, it was like an mini dinner theatre...We will have to try that one, even though Ed may have already...his co does a lot of work w/ Celebration school....it is full of their audio visual equipment....

Sorry we didn't get to see you while you were here....on your whirlwind tour...reminds me of the genie in Alladin....:p In fact I have a very nice Magic Carpet Tour Jacket w/ the Genie Emb on front and back, and line w/ Genie material, that is tooooo big, so I am putting it on ebay..... I shall think of you as I am listing it....

Well, some people will buy almost anything. Doombuggies.com has just started to promote their pin too. I certainly understand that some uninformed persons might be willing to spend top dollar for worthless pins. In the current market it all depends upon what a willing seller and buyer agree upon. However, many buyers will regret (or forget) those "fake" pins in just a few short years. Let's see how the "fake" pins hold their value!

I got out my magnifying glass & looked very closely at my monorail wings that Raul gave me last fall. Mine are real! On the front it says Walt Disney World with one of those trademark symbols with an "R" with a circle around it. I was only joking with Raul - I trust him (Donna, don't say anything :)!!)
