I have Product questions

I need brads at the moment so I'm going shopping in their catalog and using it as one of my free days. I just can't pass up 1,050 brads for $24.95 when they are such a good mix of colors. I need to stock up on more diamond glaze and they have a couple of embossing powders I need also. Plus, they have great prices on things that can be altered for the SS swap.

Ok, I thought I'd ask this here since it's definitely a "product"-y question. I have some of the Disney embossing folders for the Cuttlebug. I have never embossed with the powder (so it makes it a color (does that make sense?)) How do I do that??

I'm not visual, I'm much more direction-oriented! I need a step-by-step explanation!!

Please, someone, save me from my embossing ignorance!!

The embossing folder are different than embossing with color.

The folders will raise the paper up for you. You can than ink it or use chalk or use markers to color in the raised or recessed parts.

Embossing with color usually involves a wet medium, dry powder and a heat gun.

I can do an embossing powder class if someone will do a class on how to use those darn brass stencils that I keep getting and have no idea what to do with.

Those things. I think you need a light box to work those.

I've seen some people use them but I can't figure out how or why. They seem so complicated. I've read the directions but can't get the whole light box/reverse image/chalk business.

Glad to know I'm not the only one.

I've tried to use them without the light box and it is so hard to know if you are even getting everything you are supposed to on the stencil. So I have a few, one Mickey, one stars & one alphabet, that don't get used. Anyone have a light box that wants them in the next $0.41 swap?

I do have the Fiskars double sided plastic ones that work with their non-lit box. It has pegs that hold down the stencil. You put your paper in between the layers, upside down, and you can see exactly what is going to go where. I've used those a couple of times on my swaps and in CJs. They just don't have a strong reveal or raised area. The cuttlebug ones are very raised. I like that look better.

OK, I have the souffle pens and they don't puff for me. I just used one yesterday and I got it going on a piece of scrap first, and even after writing "Happy Birthday Elizabeth" there was no puff. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

I'm not sure. Mine didn't puff either. Do we need to heat them?

It doesn't say to on the package. And mine never puffed either. More like a little itty bit raised and slick feel instead.

That makes so much more sense now!! That's what I thought about the folders (it raised, and then I used markers/chalk/etc) Then, I got all confused about the powder stuff!! Thanks for clearing up my confuzzled brain!!

Mine are puffed on my acrylic pages but not so much on my cardstock. I think it is more on surfaces they can't soak into at all.
