I have one more question about points in "reservation status"

So...there is a resale contract with an August Use Year that I am considering. It has no 2010 points available, but it has some points currently in "reservation status".

I understand that these points cannot be used for DVC resorts because they are already allocated for "outside of Disney." Since it is within 4 months of the use year, are these points basically worthless? Don't you have to book the Disney Collection more than 4 months before the end of the use year?

Is there anything that can be done with these points?

Thanks!

Kerri

I assume those are 2009 points that would normally expire July 31, 2010. As reservation points, they are now essentially worthless because they cannot be banked, must be used by July 31, and the rule of 4 you mention prohibits reserving Disney collection, with one exception: I believe you can still book a Disneyland hotel as those are not subject to the rule of 4.

Note if those are August 2010 points in reservation status you have plenty of time to use them as long as they were not points borrowed into the 2009 use year to make the original reservation outside of Disney that was cancelled.

I would check with member services on this. I think if they became reservation points before the 4 month deadline and the reservation was cancelled, they can still be used in the last 4 months as reservation points.

Thank you! That's encouraging. Can I (a non-member) call member services directly?

No. You should ask your resale agent. The problem you are going to run into at this point is your contract may not close until the end of July. With a resale, you can't make a reservation until you close and your information is in DVC's system.

The "Rule-of-Four" does not apply to points already in "Reservation Status" since they have already been committed to that program. They cannot be banked and will expire at the end of the Use Year, but they can be used for any of the non-DVC options - even to reserve and stay during the last four months of the Use Year.
