How about a new game? What do you have in your kitchen that you want to use up? I have 3 containers of sour cream I need to use. Any ideas?:thumbsup2

I use sour cream to bread chicken or pork chops ... I dip the meat into the sour cream then cornflake crumbs. It keep the meat VERY moist.

Amish Chicken 'n Noodles. They are served as a side dish around here (in Wayne/Holmes County, Ohio).

How about a frozen pork loin and/or 2 boxes of barley?

Pork Loin-
Put it in the crockpot. Mix together 1 can coke (not diet, although I use Coke Zero), 1.5 c. brown sugar, 2 cloves minced garlic, and 1/2 c. ketchup and a liberal shaking of salt & pepper. Pour over pork. Cook on high 5-6 hours until it's tender enough to shred (you might have to cook longer if you put it in frozen). Take out the pork and shred it. Put it back in the crockpot, stir to mix it with the sauce and cook for another hour on low.

We serve this on salad with a cilantro buttermilk dressing or on tortillas with avocado & the cilantro ranch dressing. Delicious!

Can't help you on the barley. :confused3

We always eat egg noodles with beef stroganoff. Yummy.

Sour cream is one of the main ingredients in home made pierogi dough (or at least the recipe I have it is).

what about twice baked potatoes too?

We make our sloppy joes with a can of diced tomatoes, some ketchup, brown sugar, gr. mustard, A1, vinegar and worcestershire. Finely diced onion and celery too.
Also a large pot of spaghetti sauce and freeze it into family sized containers. Chili, large batch, frozen same as spaghetti.

as for the noodles, what about fried cabbage and noodles? We always used whatever we had on hand, larger was easier but it really didn't make a difference.

I would love some ideas for using up cans of Bush's Baked Beans and cans of diced tomatoes.

Seems like we went a little crazy when these things were BOGO !

Thanks in advance for your suggestions! :)

How do you make the fried cabbage and noodles?

Thanks!!

bacon grease is a key ingredient--definitely not healthy. My sister in law shreds her cabbage, I tend to chunk mine. Fry the cabbage in the bacon grease until tender/cooked, boil noodles and add to the cabbage. Salt and pepper to taste.

OK, let's see...

Egg Noodles - Serve them under a multitude of sauce-y dishes. Stroganoff, goulashes, etc. One of my families favorite ways to use up noodles of any kind is to cook them then cover them with diced, browned-up chicken breast, artichoke hearts, mushrooms, canned diced tomatoes, olives, and jarred alfredo sauce.
Sour Cream - I have a fine recipe for sour cream pancakes/crepes. Good for breakfast with syrup, or rolled up around things.
Hamburger - Hamburger/veggie soup, or as PPs suggested, make a huge amount of spaghetti sauce or chili and freeze in meal-sized portions for later. You could do this with the soup as well.
Canned diced tomatoes - Besides being one of the ingredients in both my hamburger veggie/soup recipe and my home made spaghetti sauce AND my chili (:lmao:), I also make a mean steak-and-tomatoes in the crockpot with them. Put a cheap cut of meat in the crockpot (usually round steak or stew meat) and add a couple of cans of tomatoes, some rough-chopped peppers and onions, a good-sized squirt of yellow mustard, S&P, and a little flour to thicken the sauce. Cook on low till the meat is falling apart and serve over egg noodles.

I have a couple bags of frozen blackberries that we picked last summer. I don't like the berries as is because of all the seeds. What can I do with them or their juice? ;)

They must have had tomato soup on sale or something! I swear there are 30 cans in the pantry that Dh bought. Now that the weather is warming up a bit, I don't see us eating that many cans of soup. What can I do with tomato soup?:rotfl:

Hmmmm.... cook them, and mash them or juice them. Strain them to get all the seeds out (cheesecloth maybe? not quite sure how'd you'd do that) and use sugar and pectin to make jelly out of the juice. Just a brain fart, never really done this... you'd have to do some jelly-making research.

Save it for next year! :lmao:
Honestly, I am not sure I have ever seen a recipe that called for tomato soup, except as a base for OTHER soups. I have made a yummy soup using tomato soup as a base... add some boneless skinless chicken breasts, precooked and chopped up) a can of sliced olives, a can of Mexi-corn (corn with peppers in it) and some southwest seasonings to taste.

I have used it on chicken in the crock pot or oven. I add some orageno, basil, and a can of diced tomato(sometimes the mild rotel), and serve it over rice. We like it, just don't add much water to the soup and it makes a good sauce as the moisture cooks out of the chicken.

I always used a can of tomato soup along with the tomato juice when I made cabbage rolls.

How about going to Campbell's website. I bet you can find recipes for your soup there. :thumbsup2
