How about a new game? What do you have in your kitchen that you want to use up? I have 3 containers of sour cream I need to use. Any ideas?:thumbsup2

How about a coffee cake that uses sour cream as an ingredient? If it's of interest to you I can dig out the recipe.

Here it is:
Sour Cream Coffee Cake

Filling: 1/4 c. sugar and 2 tsp cinnamon (optional: chocolate bits / nuts)

Cream well: 1 stick margarine, 1 cup sugar, 2 eggs, 1 tsp vanilla

Sift: 2 cups flour, 1 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp baking powder, 1/4 tsp salt

Add to creamed mixture and mix well. Fold in 1/2 pint sour cream. Blend well. Pour 1/2 of batter into ungreased tube pan or loaf pan. Sprinkle with 1/2 of filling. Add remaining batter and top with filling. Swirl through with a knife. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

You can lightly grease the pan for ease in removing.

ooohh...I love playing Use it up! Ok, for one container make a chip dip with a dry onion soup mix. Have tacos for dinner tomorrow night and try to use at least one more and the third one make a big pot of mashed potatoes and mix it in with some cream cheese and make Swedish Potatoes.

Yummy ideas, thanks! Anybody have kitchen surplus they need to use up?

Croutons are my current overage. Any suggestions?.......P

Grind them up and use them as bread crumbs:

- mix the crouton crumbs with a little butter and put a layer of them over stringbeans or brocoli,

- egg and bread chicken cutlets in the crouton crumbs instead of breadcrumbs,

- lots and lots of salad :confused3

How about a pot of french onion soup? You could put the croutons in and add cheese to the top and put under the broiler, then pretend you are at Les Chefs de France!

My biggest thing right now is hamburger. I have hamburger for days. I've done meatballs, meatloaf, tacos, lasagna, and hamburgers. What else can I do?

Shepard/Cottage Pie:

Brown the hamburger with some finely chopped onions then mix in a can of cream of mushroom soup. Put mixture in the bottom of a casserole dish (I use a large, oven safe bowl) layer one or two cans of corn on top (depends how much hamburger I used) and cover both layers with mashed potatoes (Any kind work. I usually use plain but if I have cheddar ones - watch out - YUM!)

Bake in the oven at 400 degrees for 15 or 20 minutes - just until the potatoes start to brown.

My "kids" (now they're 18 and 21) LOVE this meal!

Good luck!!!

For lots of hamburger:

I make meat pies with refrig. rolls. I flatten out the rolls and put some browned seasoned meat in, close the roll, kinda like a mini calzone, and bake it at 350 for about 10 minutes. We eat it with meals or as a snack.

Ham - Somehow I ended up with nearly 2 whole hams in my freezer :confused3

Oops - Just saw there's an entire thread dedicated to leftover ham

How about a casserole? Kind of an upside down pot pie. Croutons in the bottom of the pan, chopped chicken or turkey and some mized veggies on top of that and then a can of cream soup on top. Bake in the oven, covered.

How about hamburger veggie soup?

Dirty rice?

Cabbage Casserole?

Chili?

For the hamburger...you can never go wrong with too much chili. It's the toppings that make it great. Sour cream, cheese, cornbread etc.

But I have a gigundo box of Kelloggs Corn Flakes...What to do?:confused3

Corn flakes can be made just like rice crispy treats with marshmallow and margerine. Add a few chocolate chips or nuts at the end.

I grind cornflakes to make coating for fish, chicken or pork. I grind it and add pepper and garlic. Sometimes I also add cajun seasoning for a kick.

for hamburger, you can brown it with some onions, and freeze in smaller portions for use whenever you need it for a recipe later

Croutons= stuffing
Corn Flakes= perfect to use to bread chicken. Think Chicken Crunch at Planet Hollywood.
Hamburger= Meatloaf and Slopy Joes

Mine would have to be bread crumbs. I never throw out bread (especially Italian bread and buns) so I just dry them out grate them and use it for bread crumbs. Well now I have so much I don't know what to do with them all. I was thinking of just giving some away!!!

Use your breadcrumbs to make meatloaf! I always use my food processor to grind up the bread heels and I keep the crumbs in the freezer for when I make meatloaf. Sometimes, I make 2 meatloaves at the same time and freeze one for a later quick meal.
