We bought tickets for the MNSSHP for Oct.13th, but had no idea what the boys were going to wear. I was thinking 'pirates' b/c they have pirate night on the cruise, and that could serve for both things. However, we went to the Disney Store today, and the boys fell in love with the Power Ranger costumes.

They were $40, but there were %25 off signs everywhere. I really didn't want to spend $30 each, but decide to splurge. We get up to the counter and find out that THESE particular costumers were NOT on sale. I spent 160 dang dollars on Halloween costumes. I really wanted them to have something great to wear for the MNSSHP. At least, they will be able to pass these down to each other.

Oh well, now I don't have to worry about what they're going to wear for Halloween. Anyone else ever spent way too much for costumes?

Hi Mom,
Last year we went to the mnsshp. We stayed at POP in the 50's section, and we all dressed up in 50's attire. My wife bought both of my girls a poodleskirt, all one piece,at wal mart for like $15-20 each.Myself,I bought a pair of black jeans(needed some anyway),and a black and white shirt, clearanced down to about $5.00.I went to a thrift store and bought a pair of black penny loafers, nearly brand new,for $4.00.My wife, just wore a black skirt and a long sleeved striped shirt, with a scarf around her neck, and we were set.The two skirts for my girls were actually costumes from wal mart in their halloween section.Just wanted to let ya know that there are some cheaper ways out there.I know that does seem quite a lot for power rangers costumes. But anyway, have a great time at mnsshp this year!2005!

I know, that's the crazy part :earboy2: I am usually the queen of cheap. I shop at thrift shops or borrow from friends for Halloween. In the last five Halloweens, I bet I haven't spent more than $20 total for the boys.

These are really nice costumes. Padded, with boots, gloves and helmets, they are quality costumes.

They will certainly get my money's worth in wear out of it. They all love to dress up and play pretend, so they'll be used more than just for Halloween. At least, that's my rationlization, lol.

This year, laziness and thrift won out. If they wanted surfing lessons at Typhoon Lagoon, they couldn't get pricey costumes. We bought Halloween t-shirts to wear so they wouldn't be hindered while riding rides, etc. Long gone are the days when I would stay up all night hand-sewing costumes!

Viva la laziness!

:flower:

Ha!

$160 for four costumes!

Ha!

(Get ready to have a heart attack. I know *I've* had like 50 of them so far.)

My husband's costume for MNSSHP cost just under $400. And that was with me going bargain basement wherever possible.

Yup.

FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS.

ONE COSTUME.

The makeup/prosthetics alone are $150. It's freakin' nuts. But he's excited about something for once, so...

A Wraith from Stargate Atlantis.

I drew the line at the full-on tailored leather costume, so it is an approximation, but he had fun making his breastplate thingy.

This thread is so funny to me because I was just doing a search on the web last night for a tinkerbell costume. I came acrossed a site where each piece was sold seperately top was $400, bottoms $350, wings $275, wand $75, Wig $150, Hair scrunchie and anklet $95. I asked my DH who would spend that much on a costume? And it didn't really look like tinkerbell!!! I thought I was bad last year when I made my DD's Ariel costume and spent $75 not to mention hours upon hours of labor. Sewing on 1500 sequins takes some time!!!LOL!!!

I would definetly hold my receipt from DS, and see what your total would be from DS.com. Right now, the sales are better there, and you can use a discount code (or get free shipping). I don't think the costumes are identical to DS, though. Just a heads up- a CM at DS told me they are going to stop taking returns (don't know if she was talking just WDW or the catalog) in Nov. I don't think she meant just costumes.

Yeah, if we bought his costume it would have been like $2500.

I'm going to be Cleopatra, and my costume was really cheap:

Sequined evening gown: $3 on ebay (free shipping)
Wig: $9
Arm Bracelet: $2

Makeup ($10 from clearance bin at CVS) and really cute brown Dr. Scholl's sandals ($17 from clearance rack at Lord and Taylor's) are re-useable so I don't really need to count them in my costume cost.

I also picked up a little sequined passport bag for $4 that matches the outfit so that I can put my ID, pass and room key in, and makeup for retouching.

So, outfit itself was $14. Extras were $31, but aren't relegated to being costume-only.

And I think mine looks better ;)

We bought our son the power rangers for our first mnsshp. It was too hot to wear it.So the next times we wore tshirts.

They have a special promostion this weeek that of yopu spend $75 or more you get free shipping and you can use the discounts i mentioned about to get another 10%.I just priced it out and 4 power rangers coustumes were about $90. They only have the red ranger shadow ranger and pink ranger so if they ahve their hearts set on the blure ranger you are out of luck.

I was about to add that I don't know if the OP understands just how warm it is in Florida in October. It would not be unusual for temps at that time of night to still be in the low 90's or high 80's. If that is the same power ranger costume I saw last year (looks like it's made of vinyl), it will be way too hot for that costume.

One of the kids DS went trick or treating with last year had to be treated for dehydration because he wore that costume.

Yes - it is HOT in Florida in Oct!!! Last year DH was Jack and I was Sally and we were both hot in those costumes!

I am guilty of spending WAY to much on costumes have everyone covered but me!!

I bought DD two different Tinkerbell custome made costumes for way too much - but I love them and I hate TDS version.

I bought other DD a custom made pixie dust costume for way too much -
but I did get a bargain on the Jack Sparrom for DH...I think it was $39 after the discounts!!

I worried about the heat too. I opted to go with the t-shirts for DS (8) and DS (5). I will be lucky to get my five year old to wear the t-shirt. He is not a huge fan of Halloween.

I think your boys will love the costumes...it's nice to splurge. We went to the Disney Store and I wanted to get my 8 year old the Peter Pan costume. The pirate comtume was neat too. The Disney costumes are very nice! Have fun and bring along some shorts and t-shirt for when they get too hot. One other idea would be to bring thier costumes and put them in a locker unitl it cools off. Save the trick-or-treating and pictures until later in the evening.

They also will get to use them at home and I'm sure will like to dress up in them after Halloween. You'll get lots of great use! Enjoy. :sunny:

I'm going cray too, but it's my kids and not MNSSHP's fault. My 2 (almost 3) year old daughter cannot make up her mind about who she's going to be. One day it's Ariel, the next it's Cinderella.

My son is much easier - he wants to be Goofy, so I'm going to find him an orange t-shirt (gotta be one in his drawers somewhere) and have my mom make him a maroon vest. Then blue shorts (instead of pants because it will be hot) and I'll buy him a Goofy hat at WDW when we get there. I'm very appreciative of this because a few weeks ago, he wanted to be Henry the Octopus from teh Wiggles, and that would have been more challenging.

I think I will bring my a few princess dresses to cover many options in case she changes her mind again.

I was hoping she would settle on Ariel and then I was going to talk my son into being Sebastian - red t-shirt and shorts, red oven mitts for claws and a headband with the eyes.

I tried to talk my friend's son or my DS into being Aladdin last year. She is Moroccan and had a boys outfit that was similar to the one Aladdin wears as Prince Ali but no go. Neither of them wanted any part of it. It would have been great cause one of the girls had a Jasmine costume.

I actually didn't spend much at all.

My son is peter pan - I bought him brown pants for $6 and a green collared shirt for $5. I cut the sleeves and bottom of the shirt so it looks like peter pan's shirt. Then I bought brown fabric and some felt and we made a belt and dagger. Total spent was about $14. The expensive part will be buying the hat when we get to Disney.

My daughter is supposed to be Tink. I spent $20 buying her costume from ebay. The problem is, she is scared to death of her costume! So I bought her a back-up costume as well, a really cute pirate costume for $18. It's still in the package and I saved the receipt so I can return it if she doesn't end up wearing it.

Hubby and I will be pirates. That was easy. $1 for an eyepatch and earring set for him, $1.50 for 2 bandanas, and $3 for some red fabric to make belts. We'll just wear piratey looking clothes that we already have.

Total spent for 4 costumes for MNSSHP - under $40.

I work at our local DS and all but the deluxe princess costumes are $34.50 (not $40) each. We are having a sale on SOME of the costumes - 25% off. The return policy for costumes is to keep all tags attached and it must be returned prior to Halloween. Returns from WDW and DisneyDirect will no longer be accepted at the DS later this year.....
