SORRY This is a little long! I just wanted to share my ideas with my fellow DISers because I am so excited at this point. Let my start off by saying that I'm absolutely clueless about weddings. For some reason they have never really interested me, though I do feel very strongly about marriage and family. I have been engaged for a little over a year and until yesterday I hadn't even begun thinking about the wedding. We (FDH and I) were actually considering just going down to the Justice of the Peace because we want to get married soon, but he is also clueless about weddings.
So at some point yesterday I closed my eyes and was able to completely envision our wedding
. It was incredible, at least for me. We do not have large families ( most of his family still lives in Greece and mine in Germany), and we also don't have many close friends. We are both young (23) and we aren't fancy people, more like free-spirits ( I have always wanted to get married in flip-flops lol
). So...I have decided that I would like to get married in my mother's garden ( she is an artist and landscaper). The yard is beautiful, though, since we live in the NY metro area it isn't too big, about 1/3 of an acre (which is huge for our area lol). I plan on inviting about 25 people max and hopefully planning and coordinating everything on my own, or with little help. My theme is going to be very relaxed laid back. I plan to purchase many hibiscus trees and drape the buckets in cloth that I decorate myself and set them all along the sides of the tent. I also plan on decorating the rails of our balcony in hibiscus and orchid blooms. I can't complelely describe it, but it is so beautiful in my mind. My mother and I are both very artistic and I hope to accomplish a beautiful intimate wedding on a relatively low budget. For food we are thinking of combining both of our cultures and have a mash up of german, greek and italian food. I feel that this is very significant because right now there is such a large bridge between our families.
Now on the other hand FDH and I plan to go all out for our honeymoon. Spendiang 10 nights LV ( hopefully castle view
) at the GF on the Platinum Package, and a few nights at the Hard Rock for US/IOA/SW.
I wanted to ask how everyone feels about having the honeymoon a few months after the actual wedding? We would like to get married in early June (the garden is at it's peak), but we like to go to DW in late Aug because of the Value Season prices, low crowds and we usually go around this time to celebrate the anniversary of us becoming a couple. We are thinking of having an abbreviated honeymoon right after the reception, spending 2 nights at the Regency in NYC and then going to see Cirque de Solie Corteo. Does anyone think this is a good plan, or do you find it best to take the actual honeymoon right after the reception?
