SORRY This is a little long! I just wanted to share my ideas with my fellow DISers because I am so excited at this point. Let my start off by saying that I'm absolutely clueless about weddings. For some reason they have never really interested me, though I do feel very strongly about marriage and family. I have been engaged for a little over a year and until yesterday I hadn't even begun thinking about the wedding. We (FDH and I) were actually considering just going down to the Justice of the Peace because we want to get married soon, but he is also clueless about weddings.

So at some point yesterday I closed my eyes and was able to completely envision our wedding :woohoo: . It was incredible, at least for me. We do not have large families ( most of his family still lives in Greece and mine in Germany), and we also don't have many close friends. We are both young (23) and we aren't fancy people, more like free-spirits ( I have always wanted to get married in flip-flops lol :rotfl: ). So...I have decided that I would like to get married in my mother's garden ( she is an artist and landscaper). The yard is beautiful, though, since we live in the NY metro area it isn't too big, about 1/3 of an acre (which is huge for our area lol). I plan on inviting about 25 people max and hopefully planning and coordinating everything on my own, or with little help. My theme is going to be very relaxed laid back. I plan to purchase many hibiscus trees and drape the buckets in cloth that I decorate myself and set them all along the sides of the tent. I also plan on decorating the rails of our balcony in hibiscus and orchid blooms. I can't complelely describe it, but it is so beautiful in my mind. My mother and I are both very artistic and I hope to accomplish a beautiful intimate wedding on a relatively low budget. For food we are thinking of combining both of our cultures and have a mash up of german, greek and italian food. I feel that this is very significant because right now there is such a large bridge between our families.

Now on the other hand FDH and I plan to go all out for our honeymoon. Spendiang 10 nights LV ( hopefully castle view pixiedust: ) at the GF on the Platinum Package, and a few nights at the Hard Rock for US/IOA/SW.

I wanted to ask how everyone feels about having the honeymoon a few months after the actual wedding? We would like to get married in early June (the garden is at it's peak), but we like to go to DW in late Aug because of the Value Season prices, low crowds and we usually go around this time to celebrate the anniversary of us becoming a couple. We are thinking of having an abbreviated honeymoon right after the reception, spending 2 nights at the Regency in NYC and then going to see Cirque de Solie Corteo. Does anyone think this is a good plan, or do you find it best to take the actual honeymoon right after the reception?

Hello there & congrats on your plans. Some people i think close their eyes and still have no clue what they want. I think having it in your mothers garden is a wonderful idea. I think you will like having a small wedding. I know it is because like you said much of both your families are not here in the US, which is sad, but we had only 15 people and we would not have done it any other way. We got to enjoy the people who were there, there was not alot of drama surrounding the wedding (except for my sister-in-law, who we won't discuss right now), and we were able to acheive what my hubby & I really wanted instead of having to think of all these other people.

Now, we had our honeymoon right after the wedding (we got married in WDW & had our honeymoon there too). However, I think having it later is an AWESOME idea. We were so wiped from a year of wedding planning and constantly coming up with new ideas, worrying if everything was gonna go right, MONEY, etc., that we were a bit tired for the honeymoon. Don't get me wrong, we enjoyed it but maybe going back later on (which we may go back in a month or so anyways) might have helped us to enjoy it more. Plus, we still had family & friends there with us for the next 3 or 4 days into the honeymoon which was kinda weird.

Anyways, I am babbling, sorry. You need to do what you and your hubby-to-be feel is right for you. I, personally, think it is a swell idea. Besides, you said so yourself, you would be celebrating when you first met plus your honeymoon. How wonderful! What's nice about your plans are that you are actually going to go to a hotel for a few days right after as well. I think it might be disappointing if you just went home. But to go to a nice hotel, maybe have a hot tub or something.....how romantic.

Good luck to you, and keep us all informed. I think your plans sound beautiful, you will get the best & most of everything you want. How nice. Congrats again!

Have A Disney Day!!!

That sounds like a beautiful wedding!! BTW I would definitely consider doing the honeymoon later b/c that way you can get some rest and then get a cheaper rate at your dream resort

That sounds really nice :sunny:

My friend was married in her groom's mom's backyard under the trellis and it was so beautiful! It was April and everything was just starting to bloom. The birds were singing and it was very intimate and special. They had about 16 guests and then everyone went inside the house for a brunch buffet. It was so "them" and everyone loved it. They delayed their honeymoon too as he was being shipped out (he was in the Reserves). They went on a long weekend to the beach about 6 months after the wedding as a honeymoon and welcome home.

Your plans sound lovely - Happy Planning and Best Wishes!!

Sounds like a perfect idea to me!! My Df and I want to do the Disney wedding and stay a few days for the Disney Honeymoon, but I figured that family would still be there for most of the fun, and thats what I would like anyway. So DF and I decided we would take our "official" honeymoon alone about 6mos-1yr later. Whatever works for the two of you . . .besides, make the celebration last as long as possible!!! :cheer2:

Thank you so much everyone for your quick replies!! You don't know how great I feel right now because you guys seem to think my plans sound pretty good. Like I said I am so new at this whole thing, but I want to make our wedding very original and "us" because afterall we are building on our marriage from there. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that has postponed the honeymoon. I considered holding the ceremonry in August, but I feel it will just be too hot and uncomfortable for everyone. Thank you all again, I will be sure to keep you updated when things start coming together.

Princesslisa- Congrats and pixie dust on your engagement and wedding plans pixiedust: I LOVE your siggy picture! I wish that I too could have an intimate ceremony at DW but my mother is just coming out of surgery and I don't feel that she would be ready to travel by June. Hopefully we will be able to renew our vows at the GF in a few years!

I sure wish we had waited to "honeymoon." We now call it the practice honeymoon so we can re-do it later!!! We were SO tired!

Yeah--plus being in disney with EVERYone...my honey was so sweet...he told me not to worry if we had to share or if it felt short (we actually only had 3 days alone) because we could have a 50 year honeymoon journey :teeth:

Thanks!! I thought the same when I saw your siggy, I have a similar picture framed at home :thumbsup2

Just a thought . . .our anniversary for dating is in August too. We went during that time for our first Disney trip together and then we went again this past September27-Oct.4. It's still value season at this time, but there are also a bunch of cool events that made our trip. The Food and Wine Festival started that Friday on the 30th and had a "soft opening" the day before. It was great because practically no one was there!! Not sure if you know much about the F&W festival in Epcot, but they bring in about 11 different countries (including Greece ;) ) and have samples of food and beverages (wine, etc) from the countries for small $$. It is SO much fun, we were there almost every evening. We also went to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party on one of the first nights (on a Sunday), this was also scarce of people. We rode Splash Mountain 3x in a row b/c no one was in the line for the ride!!! It's just a great time for couples in Disney, b/c a lot of kids are going back to school, it's value season, and the F&W festival (which aslo has special dinners you can go to). I know you will be super excited to go on your Honeymoon, but if you can wait a little for these events, I highly recommend it!! check out allearsnet.com :wizard:

Sorry to ramble on!! Have fun planning your wedding and keep us posted on how your "garden vision" plays out!! :Pinkbounc

This is so true! After all the stress leading up to the wedding, my body just shut down. I got some great sleep on our honeymoon! If I could do it over again, I would have waited and done a honeymoon trip later.

PrincessLisa- We've been thinking of going to the F&W Festival for a few years now, but for some reason we can't bring ourselves to push back the trip an extra few weeks. This will be our 3rd year in a row going to WDW during the last week of August/beginning of September to celebrate our anniversary. I would really love to go to the festival this year ( thinking of all of the beer/wine tastings and yummy food makes me very happy lol) but I just hate to think of pushing back the honeymoon even more. Aren't the crowds a lot heavier during the festival? Do you or anyone happen to know the dates for this year? I haven't been able to find them anywhere yet.

I think they announce the dates around May. . .it's usually the last Friday of Sept. The crowds were low, on Saturday they picked up, but the first two days are great. I think people are nervous to show up on the first weekend.

Either way, Disney is wonderful (as we all know ;) ) no matter what time of year it is. Have a blast!!

I am not going on my honeymoon until a couple months after my wedding. So you aren't alone. We figure we will have more money and be more rested for it because the wedding is going to be stressful enough as it is.

We will be there last week of August/beginning of September TOO for our first wedding anniversary...where will you be staying? We are hoping to start out at AKL and then we will be moving over to Beach Club Villas

Codie - Have you ever done a "Move" in the middle of your vaca before? We were thinking of spending our wedding at the Beach Club and then moving to the AKL when the family leaves, and I was wandering if it was a pain or a pleasure . . .

It's fairly painless as long as you don't mind packing and unpacking...also, you have to allow a four hour window that you won't necessarily have a home. The bellhops take your luggage and they deliver it to your new room...VERY easy:) We usually just plan that to be a park day and we head out and we return to the new resort at the end of our day
