I'm a relatively new DVC member. I purchased a small 60 point contract back in 2008. At the time I had just graduated college and saved up to buy a little contract. Fastfoward 3 years, i'm ready for an add-on. I love AKV and want to add more points there. I am thinking about a re-sale contract. How will this work with my existing contract? Can I combine my points when making reservations?

That depends on where your 60 point contract is. If it's also at AKV, then just buy the same use year and DVC will combine the points into one membership number for you. All points will then be available for the 11 month booking window. Now, if your 60 points are NOT at AKV, then only the AKV points will be available to use at AKV at the 11 month window and your 60 points will be able to be used at that resort at 11 months. At 7 months as long as you buy the same use year, all the points will be able to be used at any resort and combined.

The key to being able to combine points easily is the same UY, titled the same way as it stays under the same membership and as already mentioned, points can be combined for single nights at 11 months if both contracts are AKV or 7 months if they are not.

A different UY, or if you title the contract differently, then you will have a brand new membership. You would then be forced to either transfer between the two or book some nights with one membership and some with the other and then have the reservation linked.

If you can avoid buying a different UY, it will make life easier!

If you buy the same use year as your existing 60 point contract, even if it not AKV, it will be easier to manage. If you get a different use year, you will have 2 membership numbers.

You will have to track points and might have to transfer points between the 2 contracts. It is not that hard, but it is more stuff to track.

Thanks so much for the responses! That makes perfect sense. I know that I want to add on at AKV. I will keep an eye out for my current use year that will also give me time to save a little more.

You will not have a hard time finding a small resale contract for Animal Kingdom. But be careful. Adding on is habit forming.:rotfl2: Good luck
