I do not think anyone is debating whether or not Dan is nice. I have been here a number of years. I do not know Dan. I have never met him in person nor spent any time on the DIS on any of his threads but all that being said....his first post on this thread came across very strong and he choose to use words that DIS BOARD members do not use in their threads/posts without being subjected to points.

I just feel with the number of posts Dan has and the number of years on the Dis Boards that Dan has....he could have handled this differently....w/o using the language he choose to use in his OP. JMHO.

The bottom line is, there are filters to block out unwanted words and it's up to the owner/mods to set those limits. Dan did nothing to go around any word filters (which is not tolerated here according to the TOS), so if the owner himself hasn't blocked the word, how can a member say it's inappropriate?

Maybe not in the same context, but I've used those words myself.

Dan I'm sorry for your troubles with the tag fairy. It sometimes seems like Dis mods are like Mall Cops, they wish they were important but they're not so they'll bully when they see the opportunity. They hold childish grudges and want to push your buttons.

If you have a post with a word that you think is questionable, click on "preview" and see if "*****" appears. That is the filter. If it doesn't appear, then it should be OK. Unless the circumstance is like the one PP were speaking of "ABCDE_____explosion" which still begs the question, "how do we know?".:

Here's a clue from Mare's post, written a little differently. Start saying the alphabet. A, B, C, D, E...what's the next letter? Take it and add a hyphen to it, then add another word for "explosives" or "TNT" or "a device that explodes." That's what Deb got points for writing.

Mare was trying to demonstrate that it's been posted a great many times, but we all know "search" does not work well on this forum so I guess that's why the link to her search works only sporadically. I always stay in the "California Gold" skin because I've been told it's what works best when you're trying to use the search function. That could be another reason why it's working, then not working, for people clicking on the link Mare posted.

Thank you for explaining it to the slow kids in the class like me. I have seen that phrase used a lot on the DIS and I would have thought it was perfectly OK. Certainly better than the real word!

Oops, sorry, HRH Queen. Looks like I was writing while you were posting.

A couple of pages back, someone mentioned that they thought a public apology was in order for Dan and this tag situation. Just want to say that I seriously doubt that will ever happen. Something was done to me by the PTB here a couple of years back, and I did get a very nice private apology that I accepted. So I even hate to mention it for that reason, but honestly, a public apology for what was a very public action would have been the right thing to do.

For anybody saying that we are guests and can go elsewhere, yes, that is true. No one is forcing us to post here and if we don't like how the Dis is run, we can find another sandbox to play in. All true.

But it's a lot easier said than done. Some of us (me and probably Dan and Deb too--though I obviously can't speak for them) are established posters here. It took years for us to get established. For me personally, for the sporadic amount of time I get for posting, I don't want to spend getting established elsewhere.

So it's nice to be able to bop in and out of the Dis when I have the spare time for on-line interaction. I don't want to lose the privilege of posting here for those reasons, but I'm an adult, and if I don't the way things are being done, I think I should have the right to say so respectfully without fear of being picked on for posting something like Deb did.

I know the moderators here are only human, but come on! All of this drama is not necessary, and it's not being generated by the posters.

Established means just that. It means that I've posted here for many years and know a lot of other posters. It means I am comfortable here and that I don't feel like a stranger when I post here. It means I feel like I can speak my mind because people here "know" me to some extent. None of that happened overnight; it was an investment of my time, and I don't think I'm being "entitled" to ask for a little respect and to be treated like an adult.
