I don't believe that. It's different when it's a post in support of Dan. I got a warning about a signature picture, that had been in my signature for a LONG time, referencing a post on a Dan thread.

I have seen that phrase used a lot on the DIS and I would have thought it was perfectly OK. Certainly better than the real word!

I agree, and this will be my last post on this thread. My earlier comment about hoping to see an apology was, btw, tongue-in-cheek (but somewhat hopeful). Hang in there, Dan; and whatever you do, please don't abandon us here on the DIS!

For anybody saying that we are guests and can go elsewhere, yes, that is true. No one is forcing us to post here and if we don't like how the Dis is run, we can find another sandbox to play in. All true.

But it's a lot easier said than done. Some of us (me and probably Dan and Deb too--though I obviously can't speak for them) are established posters here. It took years for us to get established. For me personally, for the sporadic amount of time I get for posting, I don't want to spend getting established elsewhere.

So it's nice to be able to bop in and out of the Dis when I have the spare time for on-line interaction. I don't want to lose the privilege of posting here for those reasons, but I'm an adult, and if I don't the way things are being done, I think I should have the right to say so respectfully without fear of being picked on for posting something like Deb did.

I completely understand what you're saying and I agree. I remember back when ban-o-rama happened, I felt like I had to make a choice. Did I value being an "established" poster here and the friends I have more than I valued my freedom to go and say whatever I wanted, wherever I wanted?

In my case, I chose my friends here. I'm not always happy about it, but in the end I had to weigh what was more valuable to me. Since I chose the DIS, I do my best toe the line.

I guess that's why I don't have too much sympathy for Dan's "cause". I completely agree that he should be able to respectfully request no tags. But since he's done that many times to no avail, it is what it is. TBTP want to keep doing whatever they're doing and that's their right. He can either put up with it, or choose not to.

Exactly. I KNOW other posters have used that particular termiology, thus, I THOUGHT I was safe. As Mare's search, before it was altered, clearly showed, it HAS appeared many times in these boards. Ah, but no.

My mistake, I believe, was speaking out in support of Dan, thus provoking the wrath of the "powers that be".

Oh, mods, since I know you are reading here, could you please be CONSISTENT in your application of the "rules" - whatever they may be - and address all the other times the particular term in question was used?

To alleviate any of the conspiracy theories you are accusing me of here, Deb. I gave you the warning (no points) because you bypassed the word filter and I saw it. Whenever I see someone who bypasses the word filter, regardless of the thread/post, I will issue a warning to 1) let the poster know that this is not allowed on the DIS, and 2) to document that I am changing the post. I could have just deleted the post, issued an infraction, etc., if you had "provoked my wrath."

You could have pm'd me if you wanted further explanation than what I gave you.

Established? Do you think you are tenured? I sense a bit of entitlement from some of the "established" posters here.

The drama came from the OP and those defending him at all costs. The defense of his language and public complaint is absurd.

And this thread is now to page 13 and the mods have not locked it nor pulled it. If there was something that was against the TOS in Dan's post, it's their job to correct it. Since they've not done so, who are you to say what is absurd and what isn't? Obviously the Mods and owner don't agree with you.

You misunderstand. My complaint is not that there is a violation of the rules. I say that the OP's theatrics and those defending him, somewhat based on their status as "established" posters, are absurd. All of this over a tag.

Would you want a offensive tag over and over again, When Dan has made his thoughts very clear on the subject. I don't know Dan from the man on the moon but I have seen his requst over and over again, Even if there is a new tag fairy which I highly doubt it since there haven't been new mod for a while, they should respect his wishes.

So this was the same sort of tag that any other poster might see.

Changing your own tags is easy, you just add the text you want to the custom user title area in your profile. Anything the Tag Fairy has written there will be overwritten with your own entry.

It takes about 10 seconds to change it.

So the Tag Fairy put a quote from one of the OP's posts in as a tag. OP didn't like that and replaced it with a line from a 70's song.

Why should he have to change them at all when he has asked several times for there not to be any tags at all?

No offense to Dan who has a good and helpful heart, but he's obsessed over his tag. Even if the TF tagged him with "Dan is a wonderful man", I'd bet he'd still be fuming. He ONLY wants We Are Family in his tag, and god help any TF who adds to it, even if it's something nice. I think he takes the tag thing WAY too seriously.

And his starting a thread about it is like throwing a tantrum for us all to see. He should have emailed every single mod and even Pete himself and tell them to stop.
