I have a T-Shirt ?

We are making matching T-Shirts for the day we embark. We are using the Captain Mickey Logo in my signature. So here is my question, Will we get in trouble using the Logo because it is Disney Trademark or will we be ok? We have added our family name and cruise date to the top of the transfers.

As long as you are making them for personal use and not selling them I think you'll be fine. When we were going on the SS Member Cruise my DH took the SS Member Cruise logo and used it on the buttons. When we heard that someone from DVC was looking for us my first thought is "oh no, we're in trouble for using the logo". The guy (Matt) just wanted to say nice job on the buttons and the web site that DH had put together for the cruise.

IMHO you are fine if you are using it for yourself, but if you use it to try and promote anything or to make money - watch out!

It wouldn't hurt to contact DCL and ask. The shop that is doing the work my ask if you had permission or even "do you have a letter of permission." Unless somebody outside the business world is doing it out of their home.

Our public school system has to get permission to use copyright work, whether it is music, photos etc. They are not using it for money making purposes and they still need to get the OK. What you descibe sounds like it will be nice when it is completed. Kathy

I thought we would be ok, but you never know. I would hate to get in trouble for a little thing like a T-Shirt. We are not selling them, just making four of them for us. Can't wait to wear them!!!!!

I wrote to Disney 2 years ago when we wanted to us the "Mickey Ears" in a logo for our cruise shirts. They said NO. BUT ...that was when we were going to use an internet T-shirt maker to put the logo on the shirts for us. Therefore a profit was going to be made by them.
The following year we also made T-shirts, but this time one of our gang made the logo with Disney software and mailed us each an iron on transfer. We then each made our own shirt. No profit...so OK with Disney.

PS the internet co would not make the shirts without a letter from Disney saying it was OK. We settled for a non-Disney logo. The shirts said "CruisetoberFest" and the date. no Mickey Ears

I made tshirts for our family using the same type of logo and I got complimented by a few cast members..it'll be fine. I did have one problem, I used cheap tshirts and when i washed them I didnt turn them inside out so the decals started to peel off. maybe it was the transfer paper, whatever it was the next time I'll be sure not to be cheap.
p.s. I also used these pictures to make window stickees for in our camper.

There are two types of transfer paper. If you use the kind that leaves a shiny transfer that splits apart badly if you stretch it at all, avoid these, they fall off way too easily. We've used a kit from HP in the past and it worked perfectly. The transfer should really look like it's part of the shirt when you're done.

We do Disney like 3 times a year...but we also go with family members from time to time...each time I surprise everyone with a homemade t-shirt for the trip with names, dates....all the details....the first time we did it we were a little cautious about it....but we have done it so many times and even the cast members comment how nice they are....it is not Disney quality but they are good and we have fun designing them and making them up....enjoy yourself...make them up...have fun....spend some money....they really want happy people so you have no problem with Disney...they want you and your money coming back year after year.....and we do just that!

where does everyone get their graphics for the shirts? I had the same idea and was going to try to use a Disney (colored word) logo that I found somewhere, but found that I couldn't blow it up to a big enough size.

I did the iron-on thingy for our DIS Cruisear last year ... got the clipart from the "net" (there are a million out there!) Since I had bought the Disney Printmaster Program, I made the iron-ons and mailed them to our group, who then made their own shirts. As long as you don't "sell the shirts" we were OK. The castmembers even seemed to like them.

It's a lot of fun.........go for it!

I wish I could show you the whole picture of our completed logo, but I can't figure out how to get it to copy to the dis. Maybe I can get mom to take a picture of it and that way I can copy it over. I am not that great at the web stuff yet

This website is wonderful for clipart and such. They have alot of stuff. I just put the image in my Microsoft Picture It and added the family name a the Cruise Date. It was really easy, I just wish I could get the whole thing to copy to the Dis. We used the store bought iron transfers, you copy on your printer. And ironed them on to white T-shirts.

If you do a random search at Yahoo, Goggle etc for Disney clipart, you can come up with thousands of differant really neat sites.

I hope I helped, Have fun with it. I learned of the idea here at the dis of course and I can't wait to wear the shirts now.

You mentioned a banner for your door.
Not sure what you were planning to use, but have you considered using magnet sheets to make a sign for the door?

The ship's doors are metal so the magnets will stick beautifully.

For our recent cruise, we used the same design as our t-shirts...we had a full page design on the back of the shirts and a smaller sized emblem for the front pocket area of the shirt.

With the magnet sheets you could do a large birthday sheet and then smaller pieces with number like "the big 5-0" or whatever.

Not only are they fun, but they also help you to identify your stateroom amongst all the identical doors.

I did signs for our door last year ... Does make it easier to find you room too! It was our 30th Anniversary and we had a lot of people passing saying that they were wondering what we looked like.

Suggestion ... I got two heavy magnetic clips (WalMart , in the hardware section - with the packs of screws, etc). The reason I used them is that regular magnets were not strong enough to hold the sign up and stay put on the door.

Thanks so much for posting that site!! I've only looked at a few pages, but i love it. I also have a few sites, i like, but this one seems to be the best!! It's got some birthday mickey's and I need that for things i want to make up for my son's bday trip to WDW in June. I also like the idea of the magnets for doors on DCL. I will make some up for our cruise in 5/04!!! Thanks again!!
