If you could inform a group of six 13 year olds, 3 boys and 3 girls, on a specific subject (drugs, sex, alcohol, etc.) what would you choose? why? and what would you tell them?

Tie between alcohol and sex because I know of a lot of really young teens who are drinking and having sex already.

I wouldn't tell them not to do it, because when someone was telling me not to do something at that age, I'd just shut down and ignore them. So I would definitely inform them of the dangers and consequences of drinking and having sex. "Scare tactics" work really well, as awful as that sounds.

contraception.
thats my hot button topic. they have the right to be informed about that stuff.

Honesty to self. Never, ever, for any reason being ashamed of who you are as a person. Making choices that matter to you and you alone, not what that "cool girl" thinks is important.

Not to listen to their peers. Kids these days are stupid. If one popular person does something stupid, so will everybody else because it is "cool." Teens just ned to listen to their parents/elders and themselves and forget about what anybody else thinks. It's their life, and nobody else has the right to control it.

YAY!!! Another homeschooler!!!I didn't realize that. :goodvibes

Yahh :) this is my second year! I love it.

But..

I think I would inform them on the issues towards underage drinking/drunk driving. I guess since I've gone through the trauma of loosing two little boys whom I was close to, to two underage teens that were driving drunk. the teens? one my cousin.. the other my boyfriends older brother.. I would tell them the consequences of under-age drinking by it self, and especially the wrongs that come out of getting behind the wheel after having a drink or two.

Honestly, I'd teach them what I found out when I was 13.
You don't have to be exact carbon copies of each other. I think that's one of the most important things anyone can learn.
That and that it's okay to go places alone; you don't always have to go around in a pack like you're afraid of something.

I would choose to inform them on safe sex practices because everbody is taught different things (abstinence, safe sex, etc.) Yes abstinence is the only 100% safe sex, but if someone does decide to do something than it is better to be educated than to end up as a pregnant teenager.

I'd probably choose to inform them about safe sex. Telling teenagers not to do something is pointless, but teaching them the ways to stay protected might actually make an impact.

Besides, so many schools are only teaching abstinence now, these kids need to here it from somewhere.
