What is an exclusion?

For instance, it says it will be added to my policy (new policy), behaviorial Health disorder -- counseling--2yrs.

What does that mean?

I did see a counselor for 1 yr. after my dad died. If was for grief counseling which was making me feel anxious.

I'm just wondering what this means..."exclusion". I know nothing about ins. (obviously). It doesn't really matter to me one way or another because this lady really helped me deal with all I had going on. And I'm wondering where the 2yrs. came from. ??

I believe it means for two years after you start this new policy you are excluded from behaviorial counseling - meaning they will not pay if you choose to visit a counselor during that time frame.

My daughter had a corneal transplant and then my husband lost his job. When we got insurance on our own -- any visits to the eye doctor or should she had needed another transplant were not covered for the first two years of his new policy.

Two years (more) have passed and now her visits to the eye doctor for this condition are covered.

Often when you get new health insurance pre-existing conditions are not covered (or are excluded) for the first two years.

I pay health insurance claims..

an exclusion means that is excluded from coverage from your policy.. if there is a time limit with it than that means that is excluded from being covered until that amount of time..

Like a pp mentioned, once that time is up, then it would generally be covered..

Additionally, it will typically mean that if there were counseling during that two year period, it would continue to not be covered even after the two years. Generally means treatment free for the exclusion period, subject to proof after the two years in order to eliminate the exclusion. And the exclusion would generally be required to be asked to be removed in order for it to be removed, not generally automatic.

(not to be taken as financial nor investment advice)

Hmmm. OK. So nobody better die who is close to me for 2 years because I could not go to counseling for the 2 years.
However, I could stick a needle in my eye to dull the pain in my heart and they'll pay for the eye trouble.
Is that correct?

LOL, sorry if my comment is a bad one.

Thank you all for your answers. I'm going to call the ins. lady and make sure I'm signing up for the right stuff so I can get this moving along.

OK. Yay. I have insurance now.

And, I'm not gonna poke my eyes out. ;) LOL
