I Have A Question About Birthdays

My DS will celebrate his 10th b/day exactly 1 week BEFORE our upcoming trip, so technically we won't be there ON his b/day. Can you still get "birthday things" (whatever that means, I'm sorta clueless, but figured there had to be something special about a birthday) in a case like that?

Also, what are some "special" things they do for kids birthdays??? (as if being at Disney World isn't enough....!)

He's a pretty :cool1: kid!

We did Chef Mickeys and told them upon making the reservations that we were celebrating our DDs 6th birthday and she got a cup cake and a place mat that said "My Special Day". Also at celebration time, everyone whoops and hollers and celebrates for a few seconds. It was cool and she enjoyed it. On the day of his birthday there are several places that you can get a pin that says "Today is my birthday" or something like that. I couldn't tell you where to find them though. :flower:

Doesn't seem to be a problem :) No one will ask for "proof". Alot of people "celebrate" a birthday in Disney around the time of the birthday but not the actual day. This may become a hot topic though since some people don't feel it's right. But most feel it's fine.

We're planning on doing this for DS since he turns 6 a few days after we return. Since we are going to Disney, he probably won't have a birthday party at home. We're going to pick 1 day during our trip to be his "party"/celebration day.

Glad I found this thread and I don't want to hijack it but I do have one question of my own. We will be going to WDW for dd's 1st b-day and we will be there on the exact day as well. What I am wondering is there anything special they do for someone who will only be turning 1? I know it's young so I am not sure what they do. Anyone know?

I don't think there is a problem with saying you are celebrating a birthday, because you are. I do think is not ok to get a birthday button that says" today's my b-day" if it doesn't fall on that day.

No offense meant, but many, many people visiting WDW are celebrating many different things and while it is neat to make it special for your "special person" (whoever that might be), it is usually something better planned by those want that person to feel special. For example you could sign him up for the Pirate Cruise or the Albatross cruise or even do the Family Magic Tour at MK. Get him a neat gift and leave it in the room for him to find when you get back, etc...

Again, I mean no offense as I know how it feels to want to celebrate your child's special day. But there are so many threads here about what happens when families get back and expected the CMs to do/say/provide something that they really wanted, only to disappointed.

I hope you truly have a great trip and hope your great DS enjoys his b-day at home and on your trip! :)

Something I thought was neat is to have a WDW photographer take a photo shot of a 1 year old on their birthday. The photo was beautiful! :)
