I took 7 years off to have my two boys and then took a job as a carer visiting people in their homes. A bit different from working in an office but the hours suited me.

Well 9 1/2 years down the line, last week I applied for a part-time job as a Doctor's Receptionist which is a 20 min walk from home. The Practice Manager was really friendly and it was like having a chat with one of my friends. That was on Wed and Thurs she phoned to offer me the job. I have been so hyper since!!

I went to pick up my timesheet from work on Friday only to be given the usual Xmas/ New Year letter telling me I would have to work some of the bank holidays. You cannot believe the pleasure I got from saying no and handing in my letter of resignation :cool1:

No more weekends or bank holidays :yay:

Now you will know the secret of how to get through to a doctor when you phone ;)

Great news on the job :)

Now I have the hard job of telling my regular clients. Went to see one at the weekend as I was worried about him as I'd had to call a Doctor out on Thurs for his wife and she was admitted to hospital. He cried when he knew she had to go in and it was so upsetting. He's 90. Told him I would be leaving in 2 weeks and he was really sorry to see me go but pleased for me and told me to pop in for a cup of tea whenever I'm passing.

Few more to tell today and later in the week. Know you're not meant to get attached in this job but it's something I can't do and always send my regular clients postcards from Disney and chocolates for Xmas.

On the plus side, only 2 weeks to go, then a week off and then a new job!! :cheer2:

Congrats on your new job - I bet telling them 'No' to the new timesheet was very satisfying :lmao:

I feel so upset. My lovely lady that I got admitted to hospital died last night. I now have another funeral to go to. This has made me realise that I definitely made the right decision to change careers. I get too involved and care too much but I know that I've made a difference to some people's lives. Life is cruel sometimes.

Forgot to say a big thankyou for all your good wishes and if I find out how to actually get through to a Doctor's Receptionist, I'll be sure to let you know. It's probably a trade secret and I'll have to sign a clause saying ' I won't tell the DIS.'

Congratulations on your new job, I hope you enjoy it. :goodvibes

Well , the final day is here. 2 o'clock and I'm no longer a Senior Care Worker. I'll be unemployed for a week and then on to my new job.

No longer feeling as if I've eaten all the blue smarties and hyper.....Nerves starting to kick in
