My DD has a shirt that is like a baseball jersey with dark red sleeves and white on the front and back.

What do you wash it with?? Lights or Darks. I know definetely cold water, but do I need to wash it by itself????

I know, I know.....What a problem to have!!!!

TIA

Melinda

I always waash them with darks taht wont fade and add a cup of vinegar my mom always said that locks the color in.

Dont know but it seems to work.

I'd wash it by itself the first time with salt or vinegar. I hate it when a new shirt runs the first time I wash it. It can ruin a whole load if you aren't careful.

Does the vinegar and salt really work? And how much do you use?

Ooh, please do tell about the vinegar. My DS got a shirt from his grandmother from Benetton last summer. I washed it once and it was ruined from the silly little stripes in the collar running into the white shirt. I will post this hint over my washer.

you can also use either oxyclean ( or one of the other brands) or those dye catcher sheets. i work in a laundrymat (one day a week for disney money. oh the things we will do) and the both work very well.

No one has any more info on how much you should use of the vinegar or the salt???? It would be a small load on cold.

I keep a container of salt in my laundry room and just shake a generous amount over the shirt as I'm running the water. It works for me, but I have no idea how much I add. Maybe 1/3 to 1/2 cup? Sorry I can't be more specific.

I use about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of vinegar in a regular load. I just pour it in sorry I can be more exact.

It really does work!

Ok...I'm sorry - because I really like this shirt and don't want to risk losing it after washing it and only wearing it twice - do you also put in laundry detergent with the vinegar or is it just vinegar? Sorry to keep asking but I've heard to do these things but have never done them. I know my mom use to put salt in with the brand new jeans but I never knew how much or if she added detergent and now I can't ask her....wish I would have at one time.

Thanks

Thanks everyone. I am going to have to try it with Oxy Clean first because I washed it and turned the white pink. Can I then wash it in the vinegar or salt if I get it out???

Melinda

Yes. Once you get rid of the pink, try setting the color with salt or the vinegar that binny suggested. It usually works well. Having said that, I usually avoid shirts like that anymore. It's such a pain to keep them from running. Hope this works for you! :(
