I went to the amazon kindle store after registering mine and found a lot of free books!!!! Is this the only place to get books, free or paid?

Project Gutenberg or manybooks.net have most of the classics (out of copywrite) for free.

Check out the blog booksontheknob.blogspot.com to get the current freebies (promotional ones). Just be careful to check the price before you click buy :) Some are free for months, some weeks, some days, and some hours ;) I picked up 9 of the Lemony Snickets books during a mis-pricing once that only last about 6 hours. ;)

If you go to Kindle IQ ~ http://www.kindleiq.com/free/ ~ you can sign up to get an email whenever a new free book gets posted (It's up near the top). I've gotten some really good books this way with little to no effort on my part!!

'Like' Inkmesh on facebook. They put up freebies as they find them, although they also do the nook & Sony readers.

I would love to get a Kindle II with the wifi, 3g. Could someone tell me about it and what the 3g is for? I know what the wifi does. I love to read but I dont want to drag books around. Do your arms get tired from holding it? Thanks Jo

They just released the Kindle 3, and at reasonable prices so you may want that one.

The 3G is useful if you spend time in places where you may not have access to wifi. The 3G is free, meaning you don't have to pay a monthly fee. The one with 3G was only $50 more than the wifi one so I went with the 3G version.

I had. Kindle when they first came out and cost $400. So, to see them under $200 is great. The Kindle is very light but you can get "easel" style cases for it too.

The 3G works through the phone netwroks (which one depends on the version of kindle) so that you can download wirelessly anywhere instead of needing a hotspot like you would with the wifi. You can also always just plug your kindle into the computer and download your book manually :)

I bought back when only the 3G version was available and now I'm spoiled, I don't think I could go back for just $50 ;) (There's no monthly fee). I use that 3G for book buying, checking my email from time to time, and other mundane stuff ;) Just nice to know I have it.

And no! No tiredness from holding it. If anything it's the opposite, it's much lighter than most books!:lovestruc

That's a bummer you got a Kindle instead of one of the other e-readers out there (Sony, Nook, Kobo). Kindle is the only one where you can't download books from the library. It's the one and only reason I went with a Nook instead of Kindle. Now I've got access to thousands of recently released and bestseller ebooks from the library, instead of having to buy them or reading just the older classics.

I just bought a Nook today and downloaded 32 free books already! It took me awhile to figure out where to find them too, but you'll find them!
