"I have a friend who has a friend who works for Disney"

If you have a casual acquaintance or distant family member that works for Disney, don't ask them for tickets. If they offer, that's fine, but I can honestly say, when I started working for Disney, I heard from "friends" and family members that I hadn't heard from in YEARS. Did they want to talk to me or see me? No. They just wanted free tickets. It's annoying.

Exactly! It seems really rude

What about CMs that work off-site...like at the Disney Resort on Hilton Head. What benefits would they get?

Here is a rundown.

1A. All CMs get a Main Gate Pass. If the CM is salaried or they are hourly with 15 or more years service they get a Silver Pass. If they are hourly with less than 15 years employment they get a Blue Pass.

1B. A MGP (blue or silver) allows a CM to bring in up to the number of Guests specified on the pass per day. It will always be at least three Guests. The number depends on the number of dependents in the household.

1C. The silver pass has no limit as to the number of use days per year.
The blue pass varies: full or regular part time the limit is 16 days per year.
Seasonal or College Program are limited to six days per year.
Blockout days apply.

1D. If the CM is not related to the Guests they bring in, they must remain with the Guests while in the Parks.
If the CM is related to the Guests, once they are in the Park the CM does not have to remain with the relatives.

1E. No matter what, the CM must be physically present with the Guests when the initial entry is made to the parks using any MGP.

1F. The MGP can only be used one time per day.

2. A WDW CM may, on their own, enter any WDW Theme Park at any time using their ID card with no block out dates. Note that special events do not count.

3A. Depending on their status, each CM will receive a certain number of Complimentary Tickets during the year. These are single-use and are valid for about two years. These can be given to anyone. A person with these can enter any theme Park without the CM being present. These do not have blockout dates.

3B. Normally full time and regular part time will receive four per year, two in the summer and two in the winter. Seasonal and College Program will normally get two comps once a year.

Thank you cheshire, you always are so thorough!

My sis gets 16 passes and has only been there a year. She doesn't always stay with us. A lot of times, she gets us in and goes to work herself. The blackout days are usually for certain parks. Mainly MK during the busiest time of the year. I think there is always 1park we can get into but not positive because I prefer not to go during those times. I don't think the CM i was talking to was messing around. She had been there 20 plus years. We were having the conversation about working there and the different perks of the job because my sis was interested in becoming a CM at this point.

Your sis gets 16 sign-ins, which is standard for any CM. Once you go into a salaried position, or you have enough years, you get more. And, since she's your sister, she is allowed to sign you in and not stay with you. You're immediate family. If she's signing in her friends and not staying with them, she's technically breaking the rules and needs to be careful. People have been disciplined for not using their sign-in priviledges properly.

I have worked at Disney for 20+ years. I have a maingate pass that, yes, would technically allow me to sign in three people a day any day of the year that's not blacked-out. However ... Disney Ticketing does keep track of how often and when CMs use their passes.

If I were to, say, sign three people in every day for a month, that would certainly flag my account, and someone from Ticketing (or HR or someplace) would definitely call me and ask about it. Mostly because the point of having the sign-ins is to enjoy the park with your friends and family. If I'm signing in three people every day for a month, and I'm still reporting for work (which is pretty easy to check) then I am clearly not enjoying the park with my friends and family. While it's true that I can let immediate family in without having to be with them all day, at some point someone would start wondering just how big my family was and if it truly was only my family I was signing-in each day.

So ... technically ... yes. Different levels of CMs get different levels of perks. But from a practicality standpoint, there's really no CM who is going to use their pass every single day of the year, even though they can.

Someone asked if other Disney employees get passes.

I live up in CT, the home of ESPN - part of the Disney empire, and have a couple of friends who work there. As ESPN employees, they too get a limited number of passes to give away to friends and family, plus get a Gate Pass that they can use for their family, or to bring guests in with them. They also get discounts on rooms and even adding the dining plan.

He told me the passes he gets to give away are single day, park hopper tickets and I think he said he gets 8 per year. He's been an ESPN employee for about 5 years
