It hurts! I tried to feel for a part of it sticking out, but I can't. DH wants to cut it out! There's no way I'm letting him do that. So, do I have to go to the doctor? Has this happened to anyone else?

DO you mean its around your toe??

Yes, I've had that happen. Have you tried tweezers? Or a needle?

No, it's like a splinter underneath my toe.

I haven't tried anything...I'm a bit of a wuss. I guess I should. It felt smooth when I touched it with my finger. Maybe I should let dh try a needle.

I'm still confused :confused3 How did a dog hair get into your skin?

We have a black lab who has fairly coarse hair. I'm guessing a hair was in my shoe and worked its way into my skin. It started hurting a little yesterday, but I was working and didn't have time to investigate. Last night is when I saw it.

Ouch!! I have a black lab as well. Can you try peroxide on it to get it to loosen up?

That's a good idea. Maybe I'll try that (and a stiff drink) and let dh go at it with a needle.

Soak your foot and see if it loosens up the skin enough to squeeze or pull it out...otherwise YES, you'll be heading to the podiatrist. This is a fairly common occurance for the dr.

I've had it happen with cat hairs, and so has DH! But there has always been some sticking out so we could pull it out. Good luck! I know it is uncomfortable! Almost like having a tiny shard of glass in your foot.

I've had it happen with DH's beard hairs!

And it does hurt...very sharp.

YES! It does feel like glass!

Aww, good luck! I hope you get it out. You could try nailclippers, too.

I had a tiny shard of glass embedded in my sole, once. I went to the doctor who didn't remove it. She said the skin would form a "callus" around it and soon I wouldn't feel it anymore. She was right.

Is in your toe, or you under your nail. If under the skin, you will have to prick the skin with a needle and then take tweezers to get it out, just like a splinter. This will hurt less than if you leave it in and it gets infected.

I have this happen all the time (almost everyday, but at least once a week in summer) because I cut hair in open toed shoes (Birkis). Cut hair that works its way into your skin hurts like hell. I'm lucky if I can remove it with tweezers and not so lucky if it works all the way into the skin and has to be dug out.

Amazing how much one strand of hair can hurt!!!

I am assuming the DH's beard hair comment was because she trimmed his beard or he did and she was unlucky enough to step on one.

A similar thing happened to me only it was a splinter. When I took off my sneakers after a long day hiking at the Grand Canyon I found that a splinter about an inch long had worked its way UNDER my big toe cuticle.
