A big ugly cold sore on my lip.

This afternoon I got my grandson off the bus from kindergarten. As I'm buckling him into his booster seat I'm asking how his day was, what he did, etc.

He's answering me but staring at my lip the whole time he's talking to me. (You know that stain remover commercial where the guy's being interviewed and the stain on his shirt starts talking? Yeah, that's what I felt like. )

Finally he stops midsentence and says (quite disdainfully) "That thing on your lip is disgusting."

His mother sent me a text asking if I got him. I sent her back one saying 'Yeah, but you owe me big time.'

Teva, that grandbaby looks like she is ready to join me on the Tower of Terror!!!! :lmao:

Love the things those little ones come up with!

:lmao: sorry but that's funny! kids can be brutal sometimes!
that commercial cracks me up every time too!!:happytv:

oh and that baby picture in your signature......I just snorted :rotfl:

Out of the mouth's of babes...

To help your cold sore...
Go to the pharmacy and get spirits of camphor- the straight camphor not campho-fenique (or however it is spelled).

Use a q-tip well-moistened in the stuff and apply to the cold sore (never double dip the q-tip) Do this 3-4 times a day.

The cold sore is usually much improved after just one day.

It does sting a little- but better than yucky cold sore.

That is a good commercial. I love when it starts yelling.

Thank you, I'll try it. I have been using the camph-Phenique (I can spell it 'cause I just looked at the tube ;) ) and it hasn't done diddly squat.

I can see why, it disturbed me:scared:

I got my first ever cold sore in the hospital after having my son. They prescribed Zithromax OOPS it's Zovirax! and that stuff knocked it out in 2 days!!
Now that I have had one I get them once in a blue moon but did just have one last week. I used Abreva- a $14 rip off. It did nothing at all. The next time I am going in for the Zovirax.

This has to be one of the funniest posts I've read in a long time! I can laugh cause I get coldsores too! My sister has a little hairy mole on her lip, and when my ds was 2, he couldn't stop STARING at it. Finally he says" Dat Mole!!" Kids are soooo funny!:rotfl2:

Cold sores are viral, and zithromax is for bacterial infections, so I'm not sure why it worked- coincidence? Get a script for zovirex, that will knock it out. Oh- maybe that's the script you had, not zithromax.

I think you mean Zovirax, the anti viral. Zithromax is an antibiotic and would have no impact on your cold sore which is herpes simplex. Once it dries, as long as you are on antiviral, you can apply 1% hydrocortisone to hasten its disappearance. Do not put it on an untreated (with an antiviral) coldsore. It would be like through gas on a fire.

oops Thank you dawn! I would be sitting around asking for my wrong Z stuff!

Ugh, I hate cold sores. I get them often. Abreva works really well for me (sad to say it is more than $14 around here though...) and I now have a little tube of it in my purse and one in my bathroom at home. The secret is to catch it when it first starts to tingle, instead of waiting for it to get full blown. That's why I have two; this summer one popped up while I was away from home, and I was smacking myself for leaving it in the bathroom instead of tossing it in my bag.

I get some nasty coldsores... usually about twice a year. There was one summer where my lips looked similar to the pic posted above. :scared1: Nothing worked really well for them.

Finally, about a year ago, I went to the dr. for something else at the same time as I was coming down with a cold sore and asked for a script. He gave me a prescription for Denavir.. it works great!!!!!

ETA: You're grossing out your grandson, but the rest of us folks who get cold sores are totally sympathetic to your plight.

That's so cute Teva. The things kids come out with sometimes. And they are so innocent about it!

Your grandbaby is just so precious. Love the picture and especially the caption!

To prevent or shorten the course of a cold sore, go out and get Lysine. (not Lysol! :lmao: ) It comes in a pill form. I heard about this from a friend, looked it up online, and it does appear to be true! Lysine blocks the replication of the virus (or something) and really does work. Hope that helps!

I've also found that Denavir works great. It's expensive ($25) a tube but it definitely shortens the duration. None of the over the counter stuff works for me. I get the prescription from my dentist.

My DS used zovirax but it took too long to heal. I went online searching for something better and we found it. A home remedy.

Clear gel deoderant. I buy him Arrid. It is antibacterial and contains alcohol. His sores now dry up in 1-2 days! He is a 14 year old that swears by it! I can't believe how much I spent on prescriptions in the past.
