I hate you Disney marathon!

I run in NYC, and no, we do not get medals and tech shirts for every half marathon for that price. Double that, normally

I have received a quality medal in every single half marathon race I have run in (and one 10k). I live in New England.

I'm saying that those "perks" do NOT justify $190. I'm sure it is a fabulous race, but I just want to be clear that LOTS of races have those things.

You're kidding me, right?

As a runner who has run several half marathons, 10ks, and 5ks, here is what you get in almost *all* races:

Tech shirt
a medal -for half marathons, a really nice medal and high quality
racing bib
chip timing
on course photography
post race refreshments

For about $30-$40 generally.

Yeah, Disney knows how to screw...er, um, make money. ;)
Perhaps you have better luck than I do, because most 5-10ks I see run anywhere in the $20-60 range (with lower quality t-shirts and do not include medals) with marathons being $50+. And none of these include entry into a $90/day theme park. I'm by no means calling Disney's prices cheap, but considering the location it's on par with the marathon pricing that I've encountered.

I never said they didn't. Merely answering the question "what does Disney offer for that price?". You're inventing an argument that doesn't exist.

I have no interest in complaining to anyone in customer service as I know it is not their fault. But I will find the right person to complain to, and complain I will.

Complain about what though? That you didn't know about a scheduled event and plan accordingly? I'm just really confused about what you want to accomplish? :confused3

You said it was "competitive." If you take out the $90 park ticket, that is still $100.

Slight correction to my previous post: Half marathons around here can go up to $50 or $60 IF you register late. You typically have a window of early registration that is as low as $25 for a 5k or $40 for a half (it depends on the race). So that is what I was going by.

I would just disagree that it is "competitive" with other races, even with the park tickets included. I've always been impressed by what you get with half marathons (5ks, less so, obviously, but even then you get some things.)

Around here, half marathons *can* be up to $60 if you register late, early registrations are cheaper. However, even if you take out the $90 park ticket, that is still a $100 race. Expensive, to me and not at all competitive with other races where you get many of the same amenities. That's all.

The Boston marathon, a very prominent race, is $175.
The LA marathon, a major metro race, is $160.
The Dallas marathon, a metro race, is $140.

Need I provide further examples? Disney isn't cheap, but it's standard, competitive pricing.

New York is $255.

We had family staying at GF, BLT, AS Sports and AoA this past weekend and each of us had a Traffic Disruption note left in our rooms on Thursday or Friday. Traffic was thicker on Saturday, but we've also been to Walt Disney World when Biden was there and found the road closures to be much more of a disruption with that.

Perhaps you missed the note left in your room about road closures?

So it sounds like the housekeeper for his room might have missed leaving the note Disney quite obviously made up to be left in all rooms.

Nope, no note. I guess they didn't think that people who had Boma reservations were trapped. As far as I can tell. I was supposed to take the south exit, drive all around the outskirts of Disney and enter Disney through the north entrance.
Of course they also neglected to cover the road signs which kept leading you back to the closed road.

I have found that when you are following a detour you don't make turns until you pass the end detour sign.

I have no interest in complaining to anyone in customer service as I know it is not their fault. But I will find the right person to complain to, and complain I will.

And that will be done by contacting rundisney. They have a website and phone numbers and email and everything.

Also maybe housekeeping to remind them that they need to put notes in every room.

Then again I remember railing against info I wished I had been given or told because I had well over an hour wasted in a thunderstorm at universal. Only to find, when we got home, that the very info I needed was in the packet handed to me. At checkin. Sometimes hotels literally hand you the info but they still can't make you read it.

I apologize. I thought the $190 was for a half marathon. That is why I was floored. My mistake.

Go ahead and be floored. It's OK. No one thinks that rundisney races are cheap. But they are FUN and can be well run for the runners and family/friends waiting for them. I just looked up my registration for the January Half, and I paid 170.25. I will very likely run a Half here in my town in March that will be significantly less. But that half won't have coach buses sent to where we are staying to pick us up and take us home. :) (that would be awesome, though, LOL)

I also paid for DS and I to do the 5K, for my son to run the Mickey Mile, and for a bunch of other stuff. It's not cheap, and the big vacation we plan around it won't be either (well, there are air miles and free hotel stays and finishing off our DVC points until 2015 and we have APs, but we still gotta eat!), but it will be lots of fun.

But it's OK to be stunned by the rundisney costs. You can even go to rundisney and see the costs of other events. Some are OK paying them, some aren't.

$190 was the early registration for W&D half marathon. It is a little more expensive because of the after party. As someone else mentioned, early registration for either the half or full marathon in January is $160. On top of those fees you have about a $10 fee to the registration company. A couple of years ago, they started charging the same price for either race. I paid $144 in 2011 for the Disneyland half marathon. It is by no means cheap. The Marathons as others have said is competitively priced with the largest races in the US. For the Half Marathons, it is pretty expensive.

W&D princes:

Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon
$175 by June 18, 2013
$190 between June 19 and August 13, 2013
$205 on or after August 14, 2013

No silly, that Disney didn't plan accordingly. Marathon announced a year in advance? Plenty of time and marathon money to build another road into that area. And no I am not kidding. Remember Disney does NOT own most roads on their property, they are public roads. So Disney makes money by hijacking public access on public roads. They should be required to build more access before their next scheduled theft.

Um, what? They aren't going to build another road for one day's use.

So by your logic I should complain to NYC that the ny roadrunners club closes large portions of the NYC roads for their marathon.

We were on property for the race this weekend at riverside and everyone had a letter in their rooms telling them about the roads that would be closed etc... The event was a blast but I'm sorry it inconvenienced you :( I recommend signing up next year!
