I hate whinning.........

My dd (almost 8) whines alllllllllllll of the time! It is driving me crazy. My ds (almost 6) loves to push her buttons, so she whines even more. She whines the most when she is tired...tonight she went to bed at 7:30, and I think she is already asleep (8:00 p.m.).

Please tell me where the off switch is!

My youngest dd was the whine queen. I started whining back at her. It stopped very quickly.

I've done this, too; DS, then 5, was totally shocked and started laughing. "Mama, why are you TALKING like that? You sound silly!" I said, "Well, I was just doing what you do, and you're right, it does sound silly!"

At other times I've said, "Honey, I can't understand what you're saying when you talk like that. Can you talk to me in a normal voice?"

And if he's asking for something: "Honey, I really don't like it when you talk like that, it hurts my ears. And when you whine, I really don't want to give you anything you're asking for."

At least with my kid, this seems to work, he doesn't whine very often, and when he does, this nips it in the bud.

Tell her you can't understand her when she uses her whining voice--and then don't listen any mre. Don't respond. Act like your hearing has suddenly gone bad--oh no! I can't hear you ! Say something! Every time she whines, tell her you can'tunderstand her; tell her to try her "other voice." She'll get the point eventually

My DS was a whiner. In my best whiny voice I would say, "Would you like some cheese with that whine?" He just got so sick of me doing it, he stopped.

That is what I do, I say "What? I can't hear you when you whine." It stops quickly. I can't stand whining! UGHH.
