I hate to ask...question about child's AP...

I wonder why some CMs say its ok and others say its not. I wonder if they keep track of certain questions. I also wonder if by all this talk if the price of a child's AP will go up.
My point of view is going to be very unpopular and I will get flamed but oh well.
I think everyone in the rooms that an AP discount is given should have APs. Not just 1 child. There are families where everyone in the family has an AP and they can't get the discount because some person decided to go the cheap route and only get one AP for a child. The discount is given because people with APs travel to Disney several times a year. The discount is an incentive to travel more often. But until Disney changes its policy do what you will. I just hope it doesn't affect those of us that are AP families.

I don't thiink you should get flamed for this opinion. I do know that changes are being discussed by management as to how AP discounts will be handled in the future. So it is very possible that a child's AP will not qualify since you must be at least 18 years old to book a room.

I also know that there has been discussion of the possibility of in the future of allowing online booking of AP discounts. To get the discount you will need your AP ID number. This will definitely change many things including people booking a room without a current AP.

I think there is abuse of the AP discount at check in and Disney is trying to come up with solutions to stop it without having the enforcement of the policy at check in.

That way the CM at the Front Desk does not have to have any confrontation with the guest.

I would let Passholder Services know your opinion, only then do changes occur.

Personally I would LOVE if you needed to have an AP in hand to book a room, whether it is a child or adult AP. Not just a voucher. This would stop folks from getting an AP just for the discount. I think the discounts should be for those that go to WDW quite a bit and have this as a sort of reward. We spend 30 days at the Poly a year and think we spend a lot more then many that go for a week every year or two. Sort of like a frequent guest card. I don't like the idea of everyone in the room having an AP because of my situation. Myself, my mom, and my youngest DD all have APs. My oldest DD comes to WDW with us on one or our two trips per year and stays for only 5 days. She can't take off work too much. So for her to get an AP is ridiculous. So there is no way I can see this idea ever taking place but I would like the one where you have to have the actual AP in hand to book a room.

How much more absolute do you need? You do what you want but I am telling anyone that will listen that it is OKAY and it isn't a LOOPHOLE but a REAL perk.

Thanks, and I'm with you on this.
As for others who want to know what Disney's Guest services has to say on this, I did post a note I got from the executive office of Guest services in an earlier post. I posted the headers and the gals real name..not a stage name. Let me know if you need a link to it. It gives you someone to write to, if you want to verify it for yourself. She did say that it's hard to train every cm about every instance, and sometimes wrong info is given. At this time (and up til now) there is no difference in the child vs adult AP. While there are some programs, such as DDE and tours that children are not allowed to do, regular things such as being in a room with an ap and have that AP used for the discount, is still allowed. Maybe in the future it will change, but she saw no reason to think so. Her name by the way is Jennifer Gallagher.

I just asked this question and was told it had to be an adult AP, childrens are not acceptable. I would call though yourself and ask when the rates come out.

I wouldn't call, I would write to guest services. It's hard, as mentioned before to train the CM's (especially new ones) for every instance. I have now gotten three emails within a year saying you could use a child's AP. (I had printed it out each time and not saved it on my computer, so I couldn't share it before. Now it's saved on my computer, with all the headers, etc, in case anyone wants to see who it is from..or write to the person who wrote me). Guest services not only will email you the answer within about 3 weeks, but you'll also often get a phone call from them (be sure you ahve their name in your address book, so your spam filter doesn't erase it). This gives YOU the official answer. It's much like any of the policies..much better to have it in writing for yourself, if you have any doubt.
As for any changes..well, I assume Disney often looks at how things run. I remember a time when they said they would never have transport from the Airport..and lookee here!

I totally agree. The room discounts are supposed to be a perk for AP holders, not an incentive to buy just one AP just to get the discount, especially a childs. By not having the AP in hand you have it both ways. You can wait until the discounts come out, check availability and then decide if you want to buy it or not. People who already have AP's have made the commitment to buying one. I think they should at least have the first day of reserving AP rates for current passholders only.

Actually, if it worked right, they try to. We get a note in our email telling us that we are being told first. It usually leaks, but that, I think is the intention:)
