My girls are in bed, DH is still at work, I'm in the living room watching TV and on the lap top.... and I'm scared!!! I know, I'm a grown woman, mother of two, but darnit, I keep hearing wierd noises!! There is so much creaking and banging coming form upstairs, I'm waiting for my one of my girls to strat crying because they fell out of bed or something! I know its just my imagination - we have baseboard heat, and it cracks and pops and such..... I'm cool, taking deep breaths... it will all be OK.

Where the hell is DH already!!!!!

"We'll" keep ya company!

Try putting on a comedy show. That always makes me feel better. I used to be the same way when my two were little btw. Now, I get ELATED when I have the house to myself ha ha.

As long as everything is locked up, you're good..:thumbsup2

When DD, her DH, and my DGD go out in the evening and I'm here alone, I make sure everything is locked up tight.. Not sure why - as this area is much, much nicer (and safer) than where they lived before - and when I'm living at the lake I'm not paranoid about keeping things locked up.. Weird..

hahaha...hey TennisGirl how old are you? Not being snarky, I used to be the same way but as I've aged and the kids are a little older I'm fine. My DH used to travel and the neighbors always knew when I was home alone as every outside light would be on all night. Although I will admit that I do still put a rug with a rubber back against the front door when I'm alone at night.

What does the rubber rug do?

That is true with age it seems you get less and less "spooked" I would have never believed it in my 20's, but now that I am 40 those little noises seem less like something scary and more like something that is gonna cost me money (gutter falling, heat going bad etc)...eeek, now THAT's scary. :rotfl:

It just makes it hard to open the door if you're trying to bust in. In my mind anyway. I put the rug so that 1/2 of it is up the door.

:rotfl2: agree

Well, I'm 28, but I'm told that I look like I'm 18.... so does that count????

Yeah, I had the front light on too.. never do that when DH is home, infact its already off now that he is home! One night a week every week he works late, I don't know, for some reason, tonight I was a bit spooked!!! I'm over it now!

Thanks to all for getting me though it ;) :lmao:

Add me to the "know what you're going through" list.

My DH is away until Friday, and I woke up last night to this strange banging from downstairs (where the kids' rooms are). It took about three heart-stopping minutes (after turning on every light in the house on the way down and stomping around to make sure I gave any possible intruders time to get out the house) to realize it was our new hamster :lmao: :scared: . I hate sleeping with earplugs in when I'm alone with the girls, but I finally had to give in. Tonight, the hamster is locked away behind two doors on the far side of the house.

All I can say is that I sure hope the Chilean police have caller ID, because there's no way in an emergency that I'd be able to speak in Spanish if I were in a true panic!!!

I still turn on several lights when my husband is working at night or out of town. I don't know why. I guess I feel like a burglar would see the lights on and choose another house or something. :rotfl:

OT - Yo quiero mas practica...my brain is far to old and rigid to be subjecting it to a new language! Any chance you'll be visiting Chile any time in the near future? I'm on the hunt for a new teacher (one class a week isn't cutting it!):)

We also have BB heat, and it does crackle when warming up. and if there is air in the pipes you hear that rushing throughout the house.

We had a very cold/dry winter this year, so far. I have been hearing very loud creaks from the roof rafters. Creaking loud enough that you can feel it in the floor!!

MIkeeee

DH works nights all the time. It is just me and the kids a good portion of the time.

It doesn't bother me at all. If the dog gets spooked enough, he can bark. He really isn't that fierce but he sure can sound it on the other side of the door.

I don't understand the fear... I welcome the peace and quiet!

My DH works and gets home at 11 quite a few nights a week. I am far more afraid he won't make it home then I am that someone is going to break in and get me. When he is home I don't feel any safer, I would be the one trying to beat the crap out of a burglar not him. :rotfl: The only thing I am afraid of is leaving the downstairs windows open in the summer.

Yeah, my hubby has been in California working since Jan 1. One night I was sitting on the couch and I heard my deck making a creaking noise. It only makes that noise when something or someone is walking on it. So, I decide the best thing to do is comfront the situation head on. I flip on the back light, and quickly snatched open my blinds. There on my deck was a dog that looked as scared as I was. I screamed "Get out of here". I don't know what I would've done if it had of been a person. I probably would have fainted.
I was telling my 17 yo daughter about it the next day. We had a good laugh.

OP- I'm 25 and I feel the same way. I live in my own apartment across the hall from my boyfriend...and I can only sleep with my bedroom door closed and locked. I guess I feel like if someone does come in, I will hear them and wake up and it gives me time to call the cops before they could get to me..:confused3 :scared1:

I will be happy when we are living together! :rotfl:
