I hate this...debit card gone missing

Why does this happen on a Sunday? I got $20 out of my bank yesterday and gave it to DD for an activity she was doing. My normal mode of operation is to grab the receipt and card and put them back in my purse. Well, the receipt is in the purse but no card. I didn't use the card anywhere since then and the purse has been in my possession the entire time--plus finding the card would take some digging to someone who didn't know where I put it. I have done a "purse dump" and no deal.
Luckily the manager of another branch of this credit union is one of our best friends. She told me that if it is in the machine (my theory) I can call after 9 tomorrow AM--and if it is not in the machine, cancel the card. She also said if someone does go to town using it, the most I would be liable for is $50. No one can use it at ATM machines or debit machines without my code.
But the waiting is going to kill me! And I can't wait to tell DH when he gets home later.:rolleyes1

Good luck. This is a too common occurrence for me. I think I am missing the gene that makes it possible for me to get my credit cards back into my wallet properly.

Can you check your account status online? My transactions post almost immediately. If so, check to see if your card has been used. I am the paranoid type who would probably cancel the card in any case and then find it under the floor mat twenty minutes later.

Usually the machine will "eat" cards left behind. I hope that yours is in the machine.

I do this all the time, and I've never truly lost a card. It shows up all the time, but I've never left a card in the machine, ours are all the swipe type.

One time however I foolishly lent my ATM card to a "trusted' friend so she could pay to get the boot off her car so she could go to work. $2000 dollars later I realized...:)

(She eventually paid me back).

I have found mine in between the seats - where I missed the purse, in the cup holder, in the pocket inside the driver's side door, etc. It's always the last place you look - of course - why would you look after you've found it?!?

The ATM at our bank does "eat" the card. I did look around my seat in the car. I was a little flustered--in a hurry to get DD to where she needed to be--and I can't put things in my pockets when I'm driving because of the seat belt. I handed her the cash--she was in the backseat--and I put the receipt in the purse.
DH knows how to check transactions; I'll have him look at it when he gets home later.

speaking as a bank call center rep

1. Check Your account either though online bqanking or through your banks automated phone line

2. Check your house/car from one end to the other...laundry machines & pet beds

3. Check w/ the branch (unless it wasnt your banks atm you were at) in the morning to see if it was found in their atm

4. REPORT IT AND GET A NEW ONE!

if you have any questions PM me :)
