I hate taking the cars for state inspections....

Just because I am a woman , doesn't mean I'm stupid and I don't know when someone is trying to pull my leg and tell me something is wrong with my car when it's not.
I took my car to meineke yesterday and they told me I had bad rotors. Trust me I know when my rotors are bad. I told them to put the car back together and I left the place , the failed me.
I took it to another gas station today , two mechanics looked at it and told me there was absolutely no problem, they passed it and gave me a new sticker.
I just hate when they think they can get away with it. The car is only 2 years old and is properly maintained. I hate when people are not honest, but what I hate the most is that they think women know nothing about cars and they are stupid.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with the mechanic. For every smart cookie who doesn't bite, there are probably a lot of others who fall for their particular brand of baloney - or is it bologna? (Can you tell I'm hungry?)

Just be grateful you don't live in Oklahoma. We have no inspections at all. If you can afford a car, and it runs, you can drive it.

You should see some of the rolling trash cans around here!!

Unbelieveable! I'm sure in 2 years you don't need to have something done with the rotors - unless you brake hard, A LOT. new brake pads I could see. I'm glad you were smart enough to not get snookered.

They tried to tell me last year my car had to have 2000.00 worth of repairs or they would fail it. I took it somewhere else and it passed with no problems the HONEST mechanic could see. This year luckily no one tried that. I hate it when they try to rip you off!

And you live in PA. Ugh. Inspection and emmisions every year and not at some state facility. Double ugh. Does PA realize how many people illegally tag there cars outside the state because of this?

Actually the emissions tests are done differently depending on where you live in PA , believe it or not , don't ask me why.
I will go back to Meineke in about a month because I will inspect my other car that is only 9 months old , I have a coupon for an inspection for $7.95 . They better not find anything wrong with it , if they do I will challenge them on the spot to accompany me to the dealership which is right across the street from them.
Truthfully I took the car there because I did not expect anything wrong to be found with it and because I had a coupon for an inspection for $7.95. The regular price is about $24 pass or fail.

I thought I remember seeing an expose about dishonest tactics at auto body shops and Meineke was one of the worst offenders. Seems like there's an unspoken "quota" system in place.

You should report them to the BBB.

Good for you Olga! I hate when I go car shopping with hubby and the salesman only talks to him. I told one guy, I'm over here and it will be my car, if you want this sale you will talk to me.

I had to get new tires on our truck or it would definitely fail for that. When they replaced the tires, they told me the brakes were WAY down and needed to be done very soon. Also the alignment was bad, which we knew. I took it to inspection right after the tires (before the brakes were done). Failed because horn didn't work - brakes passed, though! I can yell out the window if I need to, I'd be hard pressed to stop without brakes! Took it to our AAA approved mechanic to fix the horn and he said yes, the brakes were bad. So if you're in NJ, make sure your horn works!

Debbie, you made me LOL. The last time I bought a car , the dealer told me he could see I had done my homework, he couldn't pull anything on me, I made the deal from beginning to end, dh was never there with me.
