If you knew there was supposed to be an open house on Sunday May 1 and you didnt have keys to the house, when would you call me and let me know? Never? Yep that is what my realtor did. I mailed her keys 2 weeks ago, she claims she hasnt gotten them. She never told me I found out when I CALLED HER to ask where she advertised the open house, since I cannot seem to find it listed anywhere. She knows I have family 2 hours from the home for sale. Had she mentioned that she had no keys I would have had them bring her some. I mailed them to save her the trouble. I am kicking myself for not calling her Friday, but I am a nurse I work 12 hour shifts and I was working Friday and Yesterday. Not that it mattered she never calls me back anyway.

How do I get out of a real estate contract with an incompetent realtor? I hated my last realtor too. I guess I am difficult? Is it just me? I actually expect them to show up and show the house?! Ugh. Someone talk some sense into me I am ready to lose it. Apparently my expectations are too high. I expect you to call me back when I call, I expect a response to an email within 48 hours, I expect you to TELL ME IF THERE IS A PROBLEM.

It is so hard trying to sell a home out of state. I had to have family meet with all potential realtors and I feel so separated from common sense. Is there any point in having my family rush up there to deliver a key for an open house that was never advertised?

Yeah, that's crap. PM me and let me know if the home is in my area. In my business I deal with Realtors all the time. Maybe I can suggest someone for you.

Can I ask the really stupid question? How do you expect your realtor to sell your house while you are out of town? Don't you have a "lockbox" thingy by your house so other realtors can get in and show your house to respective clients?

Although - I would be irritated about this situation too, since the realtor should have contacted you prior to this weekend. Why is the family supposed to meet the realtor? IF it is a two hour drive - that is a huge invoonvenience for them.

CHL2- even with a lockbox, you ( realtor ) need a key intially to put into the lockbox. And the first thing you do is CALL PEOPLE BACK. Seriously, it takes 5 minutes to take/give a call to someone.

So that means if anyone has called to make an appointment, they weren't able to get into the house. So no showings. Have you signed all the paperwork with her? I always have a clause stating that at anytime if a client is not satisfied with my work, they are free to leave. Check your contract. You can also check into your local NRA.

Call the realtors broker. Tell him/her what happened, and don't bother listing my house. If the above poster doesn't know anyone, let me know-I'm a realtor, and we have offices all over the nation, and I've worked with quite a few out of state realtors. Good luck.

I live a 4 hour plane ride away from the home I am trying to sell. I had to relocate for a job. I did not want to list my house until I knew I liked my new area and was planning to stay. I mailed the realtor keys 2 weeks ago, that is how she is supposed to get into my home. That is how they get the key to put in the lock box. I have not lived in the home or state for over a year. She was also fully aware that my parents who live 2 hours away have keys if she needed them. The reason I MAILED her keys was so my family would not have to drive all the way to meet her. Unfortunately I cannot fly back and forth at the realtors whim.

You should complain to the broker and then ask out of your contract with this particular agent.

I'm not a realtor but have known a few. Some are very, very good and very professional and then there are those that go into real estate because, well, they can't manage to hold down a job anywhere else. They are incompetent.

I am so angry right now my blood is boiling.

It sounds like you need to select a realtor with more experience with out of town sales.

I am in my fourth house and have loved all my realtors, however we interviewed them and hand picked them based on our needs.

I would most certainly fire this relator and be more proactive in the future with selling your home. Find someone who has the time available to give to you.

Selling is a stressful thing already, esp. out of state.

I am ready to lose my mind. The stress is keeping me up at night. If she can't even handle an open house, I do not have a lot of faith in the rest of the process. I feel so stuck being far away. :scared1:

Honestly, I do not think that is the case. Open houses are really for realtors to gain clients to be honest so it is not that big of a deal to have an open house.

Any house I have bought was never seen through an open house.

Calmly talk to the company and find out your terms of the contract. If you feel they are not going to live up to the agreement then find out the parameters for breaking the contract.

Maybe they will make it up to you.

An open house rarely sells a house but it does show you that your realtor is a mess. You need to keep in touch, like every two days, with her so she's on the ball. And yes, if anything like this happens again, I'd call her broker. The broker is her boss. If she is acting too cool about it, call the broker now. It's hard to believe that agents are not motivated right now but some people just don't want to work. Sorry you are going through this.
