I hate pumping gas!

My DH called me to tell me to run and fill the tank full of gas. He "heard" that gas prices were going to go up a lot in the next couple of days. His co-worker told him it could reach $5/gallon. His co-workers are not always correct, but I did run and fill the tank up, just in case.

Anyway, every time I go to the gas station by me it stresses me out. When I put the nozzel in the gas tank, then pull the trigger, it just clicks. It clicks and clicks! I pull the nozzel out, try to put it in "better", yet it still clicks----clicks OFF that is. I get 5 cents worth of gas with each click (or so it seems). It is so frustrating!! I have been putting gas in my car for years and years and I know it's not me. I just go to this particular station because the prices are average and it's convenient. Other than that, I don't know why I torture myself.

End of vent. Thank you.

OMG!! I had this same problem!

I stood there fuming and swearing and the guy came out yelling at me not to "top off". I told him I wasn't topping off, I was trying to fill my tank.

He told me they rig the pumps to do that so people don't fill their tanks and "take advantage" of the low price ($2.79 at the time).

HUH?!?! :confused3

I told him I had half a tank and I was getting my 8 gallons to fill my tank. I stood there and pumped my 8 gallons....half a gallon at a time. I was paying for the gas and I wasn't "taking advantage". Idiot.

I thought he was either lying or stupid, but maybe he was right and other places do it, too. :confused3

So I'm not the only one---thank God! My DH thinks I just don't know how to do it correctly, but it's the stupid pump, not me. I only had 1/4 of a tank when I went to fill up, too. UGH!

That's happened to me. Try using less pressure and don't squeeze the handle so hard.

Up to $5 a gallon? I bought it at $2.59 a gallon yesterday.

I don't know if this will help, but this happens to me a lot. I've found that I'm sticking the nozzle to far into my tank. If I take the nozzle out just a bit the gas starts flowing. :confused3 I hate pumping gas.

LOL, I am exactly the opposite, I find that pushing the nozzle in a little farther will prevent the stop and go action.

I noticed many people filling up this evening. Yes the price is going to go up due to the hurricane... How much it goes up will depend on if any refineries are damaged...

My car can not be running while pumping gas, it will trip the gas... I tried this last winter & it kept shutting off, as soon as I turned the car off it worked fine. :)

I grew up in NJ have lived in PA for 21 years and have only pumped my own gas a few times. There are two stations in town that pump for you and their prices are the lowest right now. You don't have any places that will pump for you?

Well, can't say it matters too much to me about the price going up because I fill up about once every two months, but to think there may be no gas to be had this weekend (and I think I need some) because everyone else is worried about the price going up? I never thought of that one.

I knew someone was going to say that...

I wish at times of course that we could pump our own gas. Here in Jersey if you attampt to pump your own gas, the attendant rushes over to say something to you.. :rotfl:

You took the words right out of my mouth. :teeth: I love not pumping gas, I wouldn't even know how to.

Pin Wizard's method works for me too. I have this problem all the time it seems and using slightly less pressure almost always works. Takes a little longer though but does away with that annoying clicking.

I'm funny because I much prefer to pump my own gas. I'm SO glad that we can here.

Anyway, I occasionally run into a pump that won't flow right. I think that it's not getting the proper seal between the spout and the car somehow. I just keep adjusting the nozzle and if that doesn't work, I press the handle real lightly. It flows slowly but at least it doesn't keep stopping.
