Yep, I understand. That job was waaaaaaay too depressing for me, so I handed it off to DH. I don't ask any questions, I just take my allowance & everything is getting paid (I think ~ since we haven't gotten any shut off notices!)
DCLuvinit, have you tried paying bills online? We have free online bill payment with our checking account, and it's wonderful! I was leery at first, and for a couple of months I only paid 1 or 2 bills online. Now I'm an old pro! It makes it so much easier. Maybe you can give that a try.
Precisely the reason I don't do it. DH has been in charge of paying bills since we got married 18 years ago -- it left up to me we'd probably be thrown in jail. I'm so not good with paperwork or bill paying!
Online bill paying is not less costly, but sure seems less painful. LOL. Well, yes, actually it is less costly, no checks, no postage. It is rare that I ever write a check anymore, anywhere.
Ugh-- me too! I only get paid once a month so when I sit down to write those beginning-of-the-month bills it wipes out over half my paycheck and I know I won't be getting more $$ for 4 weeks.
I've switched to online bill paying, though, and while it certainly isn't any less depressing, it's a lot more convenient and less time consuming!
Here is a suggestion for helping the bill paying blues.....
Charge everything you possibly can to your credit card. (Pay the rest through on-line bill paying.) Our credit card earns airline miles that I'm saving for a trip to Hawaii or New Zealand/Australia, so every time I pay something with it, I'm excited to be earning the miles. The only time I get depressed is when I have to pay the credit card off (IN FULL) once/month. This limits the bill paying blues to only a few short minutes since I pay my CC on-line.
