I Hate Math

Yea.. I wouldn'tdecribe myself as someone who pays attention, but im doing really good in every subject. I made a comic strip in math, its funny, especially since my math teachers in it. My notebook is full of doodles, and somehow, i have a 96 average in math, 99 in social studies, 96 in french, 96 in english, chorus 97, ect...

THIS ISN'TGOOD ADVICE, BUT IT'S WHAT I DO.

Tip I: Here is how i study; i don't. Studying, especially in math, does you no good. Try doing some practice problems before quizes and tests. DONT study, if you forget to study 1 area, the rest of your studing will make it harder to remember things you knew before studying.

Tip II: Try to sit next to friends in math. If you're not sitting next to a friend you will tend to zone out, and pay less attention. When sitting near a friend you want to pay attention bc you and you're friend can talk about it or your friend could help you if you don't get whats going on.

you are right, that is very bad advice. Do all of that if you want to flunk. Ktpie seems to just have a knack for schoolwork.

"Tip" 1: For a few people, studying can make things harder, very few people, for most, studying is the only way to go. How can you learn something other than by practice and study? I am one of those who, when I was in school, did not need to study math since it came so incredibly easy for me. But I studied anyway and basically aced my first 3 years of math (7 different classes) - calculus is the only thing that gave me a hard time and I still got a B.

"Tip" 2: Friends distract you from the actual learning. While we can only hope you are friends with everyone, that is not likely. Sit next to the class brainiac is probably better advice. They may even offer to help you when you are having trouble.

One of the biggest things to keep in mind is that your grade may not be reflective of your learning. I learned more in the classes I struggled in than the ones that came easy. You just have to work a bit harder, but ultimately, how well you want to do and how much you want to learn is a direct response in to how much time you are willing to spend on it. Everyone learns differently, tailor your studies to how you best respond. Maybe talk it over with a guidance counselor and see if there is a better way for you.

I suggest getting a study buddy My math teacher stopped teaching us and I mean that literally. He just stopped and told us to learn from the book @_@ The only way I'm passing Trig at the moment is from the help my math smart friends are giving me.

Trigonometry ouch thats hard, my dad aced it and calculus he is a math whiz

Yep friends distract you from your work.. and also I can't develop my own
way to do it because our teachers make us show our work and it has to be
exactly the way they taught us or it's marked wrong.

But I got a 96 in math somehow on my report card this 3rd quarter of the school year WOOT!!
Now it's science that's dropping down. XD

I dont think I would EVER use most of the stuff we learn in math in the real world. Dont be encouraged

Like most say, I would just stay off VMK more, study more, and pay more attention. Taking GOOD notes is good too. In my math class, my teacher is blind as a bat. People do sooo many things, talking, passing notes, texting, , The only way I really learn is by taking notes. I think key is taking good notes. I use them alot, and when i write neatly, its like heaven!

Good Notes = A+

I forgot to say, I dont read my notes either XD. For some reason, It helps me when I just write them down. It feels almost like if I remembered how to do it. I also ask a friend how to do things if I dont understand, especially before a quiz/test.

TRIGONOMITRY IS SOOO EASY!! No one in my class gets it though. When I was moved away from my friend is Social Studies my average dropped 8 points, when moved away from her in french, 2 points, when moved CLOSER to her in science it went up 4 points, and when i moved closer to her in enghish, 5 points.

Wow thats funny. lol. My friend is in honor roll and such, and like we always look out for each other, and friends. Like my entire class is 1 big circle. For example, if one of us misses out on the homework, we just borrow it from somebody else and copy hehe. Our teachers never make us hand it in, we just go over together. So basically, you get a 100 for letting him see you have it.

For All of you who posted a reply on this thread thank you so much!!!!!!!! all your advice has gotten me in a real good position. If you guys are curisous ( probably not but i'll say it anyway ) I got a 29 out of 30 on my math test!! ( don't mean to brag but my first A on a math test this year ) So thank you again for all the great advice I luv you guys!!!!!!! well maybe i'll see you guys around on vmk some time ! peace!

I love hearing the kids say "we will never use this again" and then get a job as a laborer and have to use basic geometry!

I have never heard of a single profession (aside from maybe dogcatcher) which does not use math in every day life. And forget profession. Just to be a homeowner, i have to use math on a daily basis. Whether it is figuring out how many tiles I need for the kitchen floor or deciphering my electric bill, I use it every single day. Maybe not trig and calculus, but Algebra and geometry definately have real world implications, being very good at math has made my life much much easier.
