We have our fair share of unannounced visitors. Can't say it bothers me.

Personally, I always call first.

I'll even go one step further than this....call display!!!

My mother thinks it's about the rudest thing to NOT answer my phone...no matter what!!! I disagree..... if it's anybody I don't FEEL like talking to right now, etc., I'll get back to them later!!! I would go INSANE without call display now!!! There are just times when I KNOW one of my girlfriend's are just going to go on and on and on or my Mother is just calling for no reason whatsoever....which drives me nuts!!! Maybe I'm in the middle of something....or nothing....ot I have a bit of a headache that I don't need to develop into a head POUNDER....blah, blah, blah....

As long as I can see that it's none of my kid's schools or my DH calling it can go to the answering service!!!!!

So...yes...I add this to how I personally feel about unexpected guests dropping by......if it is convenient, welcome....whatever...great!! I'll answer the door and/or the phone to you. If it's not....then it's not!

My FIL gets so mad about this too. They were at our house having dinner one night, and a friend of mine called - one of those friends who is going to talk forever. I just said, "Oh, I'll have to call her back because I'll never get dinner on the table otherwise." Simple enough, or so I thought. Now, mind you this was 7 years ago, but to this day, if someone doesn't answer the phone, he gets mad because he just knows we're ignoring him. Matters not if we're home or not. He called once, and I'm assuming he drove by and saw my car was there, but I was actually across the street at my neighbor's house. Well, I come home, and he's left a message for us to call him and then he thought he hung up the phone, but well, he didn't. He proceeds to rant to MIL about how "that just burns me up. Guess they just don't have time for us anymore." Whatever, I'm never going to be the favorite DIL, and I've given up a long time ago trying to please them.

This is how it usually goes down at our house:

MIL calls landline and says : "I called your cell phone last night. Where were you?"
Me, trying to remember as I usually just keep my cell phone turned off: "I don't remember. Probably just at home."
MIL: "Why didn't you answer your cell phone?"
Me: "I didn't realize it was ringing. It was probably turned off or stuck at the bottom of my purse.":
MIL: "But I wanted to talk to you. You should always keep your phone on and available."
Me: "Oh, Heaven's no*. I usually just keep it so I can let DH know if I going to be late or in case of an emergency."
MIL: "What if I had something really important to say?"
Me: "Did you?"
MIL:" That's not the point. People get cell phones so they can always be available."
Me: "Eh, you would have gotten a hold of me or DH some how if it had been importnat"......
MIL: Random, repetetitve grumbling and generalized dead horse beating....

I swear we have this conversation at least once a week.

I don't like the pop in visits either. It really rattles me. If I know someone is coming then fine, but othewise I dont' like it. I can't even explain why-I just don't like it.

What I really don't like is DH insists on having call waiting. When I'm on the line with one person and the line beeps, I don't click over unless it's something I think is really important and this drives DH's family nuts. But the odd thing is-they all don't click over for another call either, so I guess it's just irritating when I do it!
