I Hate Clueless Parents

Last time we were at VWL a woman had her baby in the hot tub. I did not see it with my own eyes but my mom did and knew I would be furious if I had been there at that moment. I would have said something and I am the type who avoids confrontation but you have to draw the line somewhere. That being said maybe an adults only hour at the quiet pools would be a nice touch.

We have 4 kids. We never let them in the spas with us. We actually take turns at night when they are asleep to go in. Ill take the 1st night the husband takes the 2nd night. I have been to a few resort where i have witnessed children in the spas swimming, or wrestling. One time I asked a woman if she could read. Wjen she replied yes I asked her if she understood what she read. She was angry at this point as she said yes, so I asked her if she could both read and understand what she was reading why it was that her 6 year old was in a spa when the sign clearly states no children under 12. She had no reply

Seen the kids at the Aulani and recently at WDW, people aren't reading and just letting the kids go anywhere they choose, and LITTLE ones. Vacation means no rules I guess!

Our children are allowed in our Hot Tub at home, and at the pool after their swim classes. However, it is limited exposure, and on vacations if they do not sit still or there are other adults wanting to relax, they are relegated to the pool.

Diving in the hot tub is not acceptable. Where were the lifeguards? They keep watch of the pool but the hot tub can be quite dangerous if overcrowded or unruly behaviour is happening.

VWL has no lifeguards on that pool and hot tub (unless the construction on the main pool has changed that for the time being)

No lifeguards at the Hidden Springs pool during main pool renovation. This did kind of surprise me as it was very crowded. The thought of the germs that girl had all over her face was creeping me out.

That surprises me too. Poly has two at their quiet pool right now during the renos and there is no spa there.

Eww that is creeping me out too, as you can't control the germs at public ones!!

LOVED the Adult Hot Tub at Aulani!:thumbsup2

CM's were fabulous while we were there; if anyone other than an adult tried to use the hot tub they were told NO!:thumbsup2 YAY! Such a beautiful place to RELAX!:yay:

They must have stepped up because last year in June there were children in the hot tub. Glad to hear they are monitoring it now!

We bring our kids in the hot tub all the time. They are 2 and 4, but only can go in with us and never on their own. And they know they have to sit/stand right next to Mom and Dad at all times. Certainly no messing around tolerated, and we likely wouldn't even go in if the tub already had more than two or three people in it.

But I can't believe people would encourage anyone to dive in a hot tub. There are numerous reports of people drowning after getting their hair caught in the drains. I have hair down to my mid back and my husband has long hair (though his is always tied up and I always tie mine back in water), and even I'm vigilant about that.

every time I have been on a cruise there are kids from 4 and up in the hottubs I wonder what the parents think. some parents I know think their kids have whatever is available to them as adults because they think everyone else loves their kids like they do.

I let my kids in the hot tub. They don't splash and play. They just sit. They usually just want to warm up a bit especially if it's a little chilly. I don't think kids should have party time in the hot tub but I don't think it should be exclusively for adults. As long as they're being respectful I have no problems with them being in there.

The most amazing thing that I have ever seen was a woman in a Burka getting into a spa. I was in the spa with my son, who was 12 at the time. This woman was going us the evil eye, so, we got out, and then she proceeded to get in, fully clothed. Yuck. Talk about not being healthy for other users. There also needs to be a rule regarding appropriate garments for use.

For a second i thought you meant she gave birth in the hot tub!! Grody! :rotfl2:

How was it unhealthy? And there are swim garments for modest religious women that look much like regular street wear. Remember modern Western standards of swimwear is a fairly recent development. Men and women were almost always fully covered from the knees up, even when swimming until the mid 20th century. Many bathing suits were full length outfits.

At Aulani 2 years ago, the 2 'infinity' hot tops were overrun with kids playing, splashing, diving, etc. It wasn't very enjoyable for adults.

This year (last month) those 2 hot tubs were adults only. What a difference. Very enjoyable and relaxing this time.

(btw, Aulani does have 2 other hot tubs that are not restricted to adults.)

When we were at Aulani last month, we were surprised to see so many kids in the Adults only hottub!

There were huge signs on the steps to the hottub in several different languages so not sure what the problem is.

Though, I have to say; one dad happened along with his two teenaged boys. Dad read the sign and told the boys they needed to go wait for him at the big pool since they were only 15 and 16. The boys did not argue and complied. Refreshing!!!

I do not have a problem with the kids in the hot tub as long as they are supervised, after all it is Disney. As for clueless parents it seems like most of the time the parents are to wrapped up in the moment and forget their children might be annoying others, but like I said it is Disney. I usually go to the hot Tub at night and the kids are few and far between.

My kids (13 and 10) are always mad that I will never let them in a hot tub.

I'd be angry at such a restriction as well. We had a (homemade b/c my stepdad was weird and cheap) hot tub and I used it from well under 10. And I have let my son in Disney hot tubs (which are hardly hot) since he was 6; he self-regulated well, only sitting in it waist height and getting out when too hot on his own. Recently he's been able to deal with the higher heat of my brother's hot tub but he still self-regulates very well and gets out when too warm.

Well maybe many parents think that if adults ignore the advice of drinking while in the hot tub they can ignore the advice for their kids. The sad part, is that the advice above could save lives or prevent illness.

But it says "Exclude children less than 5 years of age from using hot tubs."

Not many here are talking about birth to the 5th birthday here.

Could easily have been a modest swim garment.

Why did you assume you were getting an evil eye? Why did you get out if you didn't want to?

Diving for dive sticks doesn't mean *diving*. It means going all the way under water to get them. Not "diving".

Dive sticks don't sound like much fun in a shallow hot tub, personally! I would think the kids would get pretty bored of it after a few minutes.
